1 out of 5 stars FT Fantastic - But DO NOT ORDER THROUGH AMAZON.   March 24, 2008

This is the best paper I have ever read. But I used Amazon to re-subscribe and the Synapse Services are NOT FUNCTIONAL. The paper was ordered Dec 21st 2007 and this is being written Mar 24th 2008. The Syanpse Service was first contacted Mar 7th 2008 and promised they would fix things. Then called again last Friday. They said the person in Florida had called me this morning, as I was speaking to someone in Maine. No one had called, it was a big lie.

When you call they have a 100% voice recognition system but none of this information is passed on to the person who answers the phone. So something is really missing here, like they shut down their call center and have hired people in the woods of Maine now to answer the phone.. I am just guessing.

I have to expect they are having company problems and they are not passing on the subscription money. Financial Times has no record they have been contacted by them. Do not send your money through them. Now I have to see if Amazon can get back my $$$.

I have ordered lots of stuff through Amazon for at least a decade and this is totally the exception to the rule. One of their third parties is failing and don't get stuck in their quicksand.

(followup added by myself about correcting the issue - click if interested)

2 out of 5 stars A+ for FT, D- for Synapse and Amazon; news three days late   March 24, 2008

I love the FT. I also love Amazon. I cannot say enough good things about each, but 'Synapse Services', the subscription management company Amazon uses, seems typically sub-par for this industry.

My sub still hadn't started after two months, so I called SS. To their credit, they admitted the FT had no knowledge of my order, and resubmitted it. I started getting my papers within two weeks. Unfortunately, I get them two to four days late. Getting three papers on one day, all from last week, is just not going to cut it.

I do not live in a metro area, but the WSJ is delivered every day by 7AM; why can't the FT do this as well?

4 out of 5 stars A Global Perspective   March 19, 2006

With its over 150 years of experience, the Financial Times is one of the greatest newspapers in the world. Recently rated as the most reliable news source by a survey of journalists, politicians, and other authorities, there are few newspapers that can match its breadth of coverage or depth of analysis. Although it is much lighter than the New York Times or the Wall Street Journal, what it does contain is worth its weight in gold. Besides, who can remember everything in the newspaper anyway?

Although I would give five stars for this great paper, I have to give four stars because delivery in my area is very bad! Today, I got the Friday edition, when I should be getting the Weekend edition! Getting a newspaper a day late isn't very good, although perhaps it's more the fault of the USPS than the FT.

4 out of 5 stars A Terrific Newspaper with a Global Perspective   September 26, 2006

I am a big fan of British publications such as the Economist and Financial Times because they tend to offer a more balanced and global perspective of the news.

The articles here are short and sweet. That is why I was so suprised at how thin the newspaper was when I got my first delivery. This can be a good thing when you are busy, but sometimes I found myself wanting more in-depth coverage. This is where the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) tends to shine. Plus, WSJ has more articles addressing one's lifestyle, i.e, the Personal Journal. Also, the op-ed pieces are undeniably left-leaning but a bit more balanced whereas WSJ tends to be pretty conservative and one-sided.

Although I really enjoyed the newspaper, I cancelled my subscription because of the horrible delivery service. One final note, be prepared for the salmon pink color of the newspaper. I know they want to stand apart from other publications, but it makes the newspaper look like it's been stuck in an attic for 10 years and makes it kind of hard to read in low light settings.

5 out of 5 stars Warning on subscribing through Amazon   March 26, 2007

I love this newspaper and its quality is unquestionable.
However, I would like to warn potential subscribers that it has been more than seven weeks since I paid for the subscription at Amazon and I still have not received my first print yet. Considering the fact that I live in the area where newspapers are delivered promptly (at least my neighbors receive their FT and WSJ on time!), I think this delay is unacceptable. I even called the customer service several times and they are just pushing back the expected delivery date telling me to wait a little more.
If you are trying to purchase your subscription through Amazon (ie cheaper than the subscription price offered by FT), consider the possibility that it could take longer than it really should.
