This Magazine truly is the best!

4 out of 5 stars The professional athlete as ROCK STAR!   September 7, 2003

The biggest difference between this magazine and its precursor, "Sports Illustrated" is its showy presentation of athletes in the same vein as, say, a "Vibe" or a "Rolling Stone". SI provides more in-depth coverage, wherein ESPN's text seems more befitting an icon of the entertainment world as opposed to a sports figure.

That's not necessarily bad for the passing fan, like myself, but for the die-hard reader, the magazine's format leaves a little to be desired.

Thus, five stars for me, three stars for the true sports loyalist, averaging to the 4-star rating.

1 out of 5 stars ESPN the magazine is not about sports   October 21, 2005

It's about ESPN. They are the top sports network on TV and they know it.
I have had pretty much all the sports magazines and I was excited to finally get ESPN. I received a subscription as a gift and didn't renew it. I have followed sports all my life and don't feel like I learned anything about sports, only more about Espn. It's articles are useless and just more of the same of their network. The oversized format isn't original, it's annoying. I don't need to see the nosehairs of Tom Brady.

ESPN is a little full of themselves. I didn't want to believe it but I guess it's true. Getting this subscription is just a status symbol and nothing else.

If you want a magazine about sports, get the Sporting News. If you want to get a magazine about ESPN first, with a little about sports and big pictures, get ESPN the magazine.
