I order ESPN every year at this time, as part of my birthday present to myself. Happy Birthday to me!!!! I find the mag. very informative, very enjoyable, and look forward to it every 2 weeks.

Highly recommended.

2 out of 5 stars A little bit of everything, but not much of anything   May 29, 2006

ESPN the Magazine falls somewhere between The Sporting News and Sports Illustrated. SI gives in depth articles about the athletes of the game and the games/teams themselves, but not much in the way of stats and analysis. TSN dives deep on the stats and analysis. ESPNTM gives you the superficialities of both. Sadly, the only reason I continue to renew my ESPNTM subscription is because its the cheapest way to keep up my ESPN Insider web subscription.

1 out of 5 stars Want a Magazine full of Ads? This is it!   January 19, 2004

I got this as a gift for my husband. It is all ads. He asked me to pitch it at the post office - - it is so full of nothing. Don't waste your money.

4 out of 5 stars Good Quick Reads   August 25, 2006

I recently took a trip to the beach and brought along my ESPN mag to play in the sand. Good quick tidbits and interesting focuses "personal" side of the players. I have always been a fan of the design of this mag. I would like to see some more in depth articles in the future but overall worth the cover price.

3 out of 5 stars What Are You Looking For?   October 26, 2006

When ESPN the Magazine was initially published, it was like a strong left-hook being thrown out of nowhere to other sports magazines. It featured staff and writers who formerly worked for Sports Illustrated and had musings from on-air personalities, with huge, colorful photos.

The layout of the magazine won numerous industry awards and I feel forced the hand of SI to become more quirkier in its presentation of material.

The major criticism has seemingly always surrounded the writing, which have the feel of a quick tidbit on a broadcast than an in-depth piece of reporting. In many ways I feel the abilities of some great writers have been wasted because of the quick hits.

But a subscriber will receive a wealth of material per issue. Published every two weeks, I still view the magazine as a supplement to SI. But the subscription numbers tell another story and there are countless thousands of sports fans who feel ESPN the Magazine is a homerun.
