Sportscenter on Paper: Colorful and fast but offers no depth August 27, 2008 Jared Castle (Roseburg, Oregon United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've subscribed to ESPN and The Sporting News for a couple years now. When my subscriptions end, I won't be renewing ESPN. I want detailed sports information, in-depth stories and the kind of details I can't find in my morning copy of USA Today. Instead, ESPN delivers a Maxim-esque version of sports with lots of popular culture reference and clip art. And plenty of ads for gold jewelry, cell phones and men's body spray. I used to complain more but I've come to realize the magazine is a reflection of SportsCenter -- a show that has devolved into a series of annoying euphemisms for home runs, slam dunks and touchdowns. Bottom line: If you love SportsCenter, you'll love ESPN magazine. If not, look at the newly-redesigned The Sporting News or Sports Illustrated.
awsome May 31, 2002 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
not as good as Sports Illustrated, which deserves six stars. but still an awsome magazine
much better than SI April 14, 2003 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
just like the TV, internet, and radio...so it can get repetitive if you watch SportsCenter everyday.
Better than Sports Illustrated. March 6, 2004 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
First off, ESPN The Magazine, is bi-weekly, so at least you wont be getting it every 3 or 4 days, like you would with SI. They're more flashier and thicker, and have better stories, and they have ESPN personalities and SportsCenter anchors, and it's just all around cool. They use a cool font for the text and everything's just cool. So you're probably wondering why I didnt give 5 stars? Well I really dont know. This review has probably turned to crap and might sound like I'm dumb. It's just, I guess sports really isnt my bag.
Disappointed with this magazine October 9, 2004 fairview (Michigan) I subscribed to ESPN THE MAGAZINE for a year and did not renew. Subscription rates are low which makes the magazine attractive but I found a lack of substance. It is basically a couple of athlete interviews or profiles and then a lot of disjointed information thrown throughout the magazine. It is flashy and colorful. Its not bad for the price but there are better. The writing is a little on the edgy side which doesnt appeal to me.It seems to be aimed at teens and young adults. I ended up not reading most issues I got or just glancing through them.
