5 out of 5 stars Amazing photos, lots of fun   October 31, 2001

The best magazine about nature and outdoor discovery I've ever seen. Wildlife photos are unbelievable. Stories are fascinating and written in a kid-friendly tone. Lots of games, riddles, cartoons, and other fun combine with good conservation message in just the right balance.

5 out of 5 stars Helped Foster My Love and Respect for Animals   April 30, 2004

Living in the country as I did, I saw plenty wild animals in my backyard (squirrels, raccoons, possums..), but armed with Ranger Rick, I was able to appreciate and see them up close with out being bit, scratched, mauled, or hauled off to the emergency room for rabies shots!

Besides the wonderful animal features, there were projects, games, and activities to keep me and my brother busy. The concepts put forth in each issue emphasized recycling, kindness to animals, and conservation -- values and beliefs I carry with me almost 30 years after the fact.

So whether you live on a farm, the suburbs, or the city, Ranger Rick would be a wonderful gift for your child. It will help foster a life long love and respect for animals, as well as reinforce key values (conservation, recycling, etc.). A few things have changed over the past 30 years, but Ranger Rick is still consistantly a good magazine.

4 out of 5 stars A close second to Zoobooks magazine   September 17, 2005

I thought since Zoobooks is such a hit in my house that my son would enjoy Ranger Rick. That is not the case, but he does enjoy having this magazine between the mailings of Zoobooks.

Ranger Rick arrives always on the first of the month or thereabouts. It is more punctual than Zoobooks. I have never had to call to ask where the current issue was.

The focus is on animals and published by National Wildlife Federation. There are poems, fun pages, photos, letters and more. I think that the focus is on activities and not so much pictures of animals. My son can peruse through the Ranger Rick in one sitting and then says he has read it through.

He does not refer back to the issues as often as he does with the Zoobooks. There are more pages in each issue. The Sep 2005 has 39 pages. This issue has pelicans, bears and mini beasts. It does not spotlight one animal for each issue.

We have saved each issue and will be renewing. Teachers can get a free gtuide online to the magazine.

5 out of 5 stars A children's classic   October 26, 2001

It's honestly been a long time since I read Ranger Rick, but it still stands out as the best children's magazine to which I've ever subscribed. This magazine is filled with articles on animals, nature, conservancy and all the good stuff you want your child to take as he or she grows older. The color photography in Ranger Rick is often startling in its brilliance and serves well to interest children in the outdoor world. Highly recommended as a gift subscription for the child or children on your shopping list.

5 out of 5 stars 4th grade students love it!   January 7, 2007

I am a 4th grade teacher, and this year I decided to purchase Ranger Rick to try and entice some of my reluctant students into reading. I also just wanted to add some variety to my classroom library. The magazine is definitely a hit! My kids can't wait until the new issue comes out. Every month there are interesting articles about animals that my 9 and 10 year olds are really interested in. Because they love them so much, the covers were starting to get torn, so I took the magazine apart, laminated the cover, and then stapled it back together. Now all my Ranger Rick magazines stay in tip-top shape. I will be a subscriber for years to come.

We'll be adding even more exciting features to assist you in the coming year.
