5 out of 5 stars Can Mana Do No Wrong or What ?...   September 16, 2002

After 5 years without an album since 1997's Suenos Liquidos (Liquid Dreams) Mana has not missed a beat ! Lead member Fehr is sill in top vocal and writing form. He is the Latin equivalent of Sting (vocally). One listen to the first track Justicia, Tierra, y Libertad (Justice, Land, and Liberty/Freedom)will convince new listeners of this ! The rhythms are rich and vibrant with pounding percussion and guitar laden hooks. There are various musical styles (both underlying and upfront) consisting of Carribean, reggae, soft alternative to the last semi alternative ska-like rock track entitled Nada que perder (Nothing to Lose). The captivating mid tempo love ballad Mariposa tracionera (Treacherous Butterfly ) is simply AWESOME ! In rough English terms the song is about a treacherous, woman who betrays her lover by cheating on him. For those who do not understand Spanish, just simply listening to the music would make the listener think it is a beautiful song about a sweet romance...not ! Yet, Mana is able to take these sad lyrics and give them an enchanting melodic feel... This may be the project that will bring Mana to higher heights, yet (especially in America)!

4 out of 5 stars Mana Is Back!   September 20, 2002

After more than four years of not recording a studio album, the Mexican band Mana is back with "Revolucion De Amor", an album that contains twelve songs. The first single "Angel De Amor" is now gaining a lot of popularity around Latin America and other countries. I think this album is good, but not as good as I expected it to be. The songs I like the most are "Justicia, Tierra Y Libertad", "Ay, Doctor", "Fe", "Sabanas Frias", "Pobre Juan", " Por Que Te Vas?", and "Angel De Amor". The song "Ay, Doctor" basically talks about someone who's seeing the doctor because he feels sick because his love is gone. It's a pretty cool song. I'm hoping it's one of the singles in this album. The song " Por Que Te Vas?" talks about someone who lost his love when he loved her the most. "Pobre Juan" is another song I like a lot. It talks about a guy named Juan who tries to cross the border. When time passes no one knows anything about him. Did the desert bury him? Or did "la migra" get him? Who Knows? This is a great song in this album. This album also includes the lyrics for every song and it also includes quotes of people in history such as Gandhi. I recommend this album. It's pretty good.

3 out of 5 stars Hmmmmmm......!!   February 18, 2003

I have many thoughts on this album, Pros and Cons.

Cons :

1. Mana has not seen an evolution in its music. You can place on song from their first album in Revolucion de Amor and you could barely see the difference. I guess they should broaden their horizons. They even repeat the lyrics of past songs ("yo te llore todo un rio" in Mariposa Traicionera. Lack of creativity?
2. Many tracks in this album are of two radical types : political and love. Repetitive?
3. Fher's voice? What happened? Gaining rasp or burned out?
4. I was particulary bored in this album, except for some tracks such as Eres mi religion, Angel de Amor, Nada que perder and Sin tu carino and Sabanas Frias. Ay Doctor, Pobre Juan and the political stuff just sucks.

Pros:
1. Mana goes into a rocker style more into the style on "Cuando Los Angeles Lloran" which is good.
2. Two great guests : Santana (Justicia Tierra y Libertad) and Ruben Blades (Sabanas Frias).
3. Great guitar riffs and arrangements by Sergio.
4. Good to see more tracks sung by Alex and debut by Sergio as singer.

THEY HAVE HAD BETTER ALBUMS SUCH AS THEIR LAST 2! I HOPE WE CAN SEE THEM EVOLVE SOON!

Just want to say that I don't know much Spanish, but I do tune into Spanish radio stations cos' I love the sound. I think it was around 12/03 that I kept hearing Mariposa Traicionera on the radio. The name of the song was not announced or maybe it was but I just missed it. The song had this hold on me and I just had to find out who the singer was. Searched the internet with just the keyword "mariposa" and after much work, I finally discovered this Mana band. Have bought a few of their albums since, and am still going through the letras with my Spanish Dictionary! Other songs of the band I like are for example, Te llore un rio, Oye mi amor, Como te deseo,Te llevare al cielo, Eres mi religion. Well, I could go on and on...

5 out of 5 stars Bien por Mana   August 21, 2002
