Country singer August 11, 2008 C. Nick Carter 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
We liked her on dancing with the stars and she sings well. She sounds a lot like other country western female singers. Her brother joined her in one song and it was good.

Why country? August 22, 2008 C. Tong 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
Everytime I hear Julianne's songs it sounds kind of fake because when she talks she has absolutely no country sound in her voice at all. I think if she was the make an album it sound just be a regular pop/ballad album.
pop posing as country September 6, 2008 James C. Johnson (silver spring,md) 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
the problem with most country music( and i use that term very loosely) is that it usually sounds like half-baked/pale imitations of lynyrd skynyrd or the eagles.jon bon jovi made a cooment once about how easily most country music sounds like his band. he's not far off. listen to ms. hough and you'll notice too many pop music references.while i admire her work on dancing with the stars( she makes dancing look so damn easy) she cannot do it all.skip this and buy the new one from emmylou harris or patti loveless. tha t's real country, baby!!
Surprisingly Good June 3, 2008 BreitGirl (Illinois) I have been a fan of Julianne on DWTStars and I cringed a little when I very first heard that she was making a country album (simply because I had seen so many other "stars"/actresses fail miserably making embarassing attempts to try and make it in the music world). When I saw this album was on sale for $7 on amazon.com I figured "what the heck" and decided to give it a try. I got it in the mail the day I was leaving for a 4 hour road trip and it was so good I couldn't take it out of my music player. The songs are catchy- a little pop and a little country. Reminded me of a mix between Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift. Julianne has a surprisingly large voice for her teeny tiny dancer body, and this album is genuinely likeable. (I especially like #6, a duet with her big brother Derek Hough). Definitely worth purchasing. Big things are in store for Julianne Hough, and I have a feeling we're going to be seeing her bursting onto the country scene with considerable success if this album is any indication. She's got room to grow for sure, but her self titled debut is enjoyable.
