Catch-22 May 10, 2008 C. Karam (Lexington, Kentucky United States) 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Surprising to me, Mike Tramp went out and made a fine cd. That must be said first. But, there are many variables that led to the making of this cd that can't be ignored. To the "casual" White Lion fan, Mike Tramp IS White Lion. By "casual", I mean the fans who hear "Wait,"When The Children Cry", or "Little Fighter" on an 80's radio station and say "I used to love that song!" Mike is that recognizable voice, and the rest can be replaced without too much notice. Now to the "true" fan, those who still listen to "If My Mind Is Evil", "Warsong", and "Lady Of The Valley" on a regular basis, Vito Bratta is as important or a more important part of the band, and without him, this is not truly White Lion. I fall into this category. Now the problem Mike faces is this. The "casual" fan will probably never know this cd even exists due to the times we live in and his target market will be the ones who know Vito, love Vito, and are gonna look at this with a skeptical mind. Again, this is me. So I listened to this cd, and found myself a bit surprised. It's not as good as anything they've ever put out, not even "Fight To Survive". But, it does still sound like White Lion and there a couple of great songs on here. I didn't give Tramp enough credit as a songwriter. I assumed Vito was the creative genius behind the music and Tramp penned the lyrics. "Sangre De Cristo" and "Battle Of Little Big Horn" proved me wrong. "Dream" is a great song as well. That being said, Vito is sorely missed on this disc. Vito never became the semi-household name that Eddie Van Halen, Steve Vai, or Joe Satriani became. But, those in the White Lion camp know he was more than deserving. So creative. So melodic. And when you have a talent like that, and you return to the scene without it and instead bring in an imitation, it's obvious. I certainly don't mean disrespect to Jamie Law(Vito's replacement). Jamie is extremely gifted. I like him a lot. Before I bought this cd, I watched live clips of the current line-up covering old songs so I could see how well Jamie played Vito's material. He was fantastic. Don't know if a Mike/Vito reunion will ever be in the cards...but I, along with everyone else, certainly hope so. This is a good cd. And it sounds like White Lion. But, it ain't White Lion. Not without Vito.
not disappointed here May 16, 2008 "Giles The Axeman" (North Carolina) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
well iam not going to argue about whats what, but i'll give my opinion the best i can. white lion has been missing in action for almost 20 years. then all the sudden tramp puts an album out and of course me being an 80's metalhead in my day iam going to give it a try, mike tramp has done a excellent job replacing the original band members. great sound, sounds much more like pride than big game, but holds it on sound. tramps voice has gotting a little weak ,some parts of the album he sounds really good then other parts he sounds a little weak but not enough to disappoint. this album really grows on you about the 3rd time listing. battle of little big horn is a song that doesn't let you down along with dream going to do it my way and finally see the light are great songs. so it's up to you give it a try
The LION is back ROARING louder tha ever! May 2, 2008 Carlos Vernaza (Bogota D.C., Colombia) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I just wanted to say i just saw this band live in Bogota, Colombia... and they totally blew me away! I have never had the chance to see them, but they exceeded my expectations... i have no words! They are rocking harder than ever! As Tramp said... "Rock is back and alive like it never has been before"... and White Lion is guilty of that. Thank you!
No Pride without Vito!!! May 6, 2008 Wade Babcock (Sioux Falls, SD United States) 2 out of 5 found this review helpful
To me this is just sad. I wish Mike Tramp would just give it up. Vito was the heart and soul of White Lion and there just simply can't be real White Lion without him. Their classic sound came from Vito's guitar playing and his songwriting. I loved them together and really wish Vito would return, but as long as he is not in the fold, this is just a tragic reminder of the demise of one of the great bands of the 80's. No PRIDE here.
Where is Vito????!!!! May 25, 2008 Pedro Mendoza (Miami, Fla, USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
I am giving this CD three stars because I believe it is a decent try. Don't get me wrong, I love WL, but let's face it: Vito is not there and he IS what this album lacks. 'Nough said!
