Whatever type of music you like, buy this one. February 23, 1999 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This was my first introduction to Bela, and it is a magnificent collection of acoustic music. The interplay of 6 stringed instruments played by virtuosos will bring a smile to your face and a stomp to your feet. I have always said if Bela choose to play the electric guitar, he would be a multi-platinum rock star, thank goodness he didn't and became the best banjo player around. This CD will leave you yearning for more of his stuff and quickly desiring to explore other bluegrass-type music. Enjoy.
Awesome, totally awesome! August 28, 1999 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
What more can I say, the music on this CD is really fantastic. This is one of the best performances of some of the best music I've ever heard. There's not a bad song on the CD and the best ones (The Legend, Whitewater, Slipstream, Up and Around the Bend, and Natchez Trace) are top notch stuff. The fiddles sing, and the banjo picking is tremendous. If you like Bluegrass (or Newgrass) then this is the CD for you.
The greatest Bluegrass/Newgrass CD ever December 19, 2000 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
If you only have one Bela Fleck CD, this is the one to have. Every musician on the CD is the best of his instrument. Jerry Douglas, who is light years ahead of the next best Dobro player, Stuart Duncan and Mark O'Connor playing fiddle--sometimes together! Sam Bush playing mandolin, Mark Schatz on bass, and the unparalleled Tony Rice on guitar.Every song on this CD is a masterpiece. The tones are perfect, and everyone plays amazingly, yet always tastefully.
Awsome!!! June 18, 2004 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
A coworker of mine plays the banjo. I asked him if he had any Bela Fleck CDs I could listen to and he brought the "Drive" CD to work for me. I pride myself in being open minded and I will listen to any type of music. All I can say is, for an introduction into bluegrass, this CD was perfect. I love it and will order a copy of my own!
I wish I could give this CD about 12 stars instead of 5 April 12, 2000 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
More of a 'newgrass' album than bluegrass. Truly amazing. Not only Bela, who is just about the best banjo player ever, but the supporting cast will be familiar to anyone who's ever been to a bluegrass festival. I recommend it without reservation. A great introduction to the genre if you know someone who needs initiation. I had a 'car tape' for years with Drive on one side and Guitar on the other that made the miles fade away and the trips end too quickly...
