5 out of 5 stars Jackpot   May 13, 2005

There really isn't anything new for me to add to all these reviews, but I'd like to add one more positive rating. If you're familiar with Los Straitjackets, and their first album in particular, you'll find Viva! to be a more than worthy companion to that album. A very good selection of rock instrumentals, not one of them skippable. Like The Ventures, Los Straitjackets are on the books as a surf rock band, but they play around with so many different styles, that to simply call them a surf band isn't entirely accurate. If you happen to be new to this group, understand that along with some catchy surf tunes, you'll get songs that'll make you feel as though you're in your own spy flick or western. Making Viva! your first Straitjackets album is anything but a gamble.

5 out of 5 stars Groovy sound if you dig the munsters.   August 2, 1999

Surf's up dude. Taking a cue from Austin Powers this CD takes you back and puts you in the pipeline.

5 out of 5 stars Best Surf Guitar Band since the Ventures!   February 6, 1999

The first time that I heard Los Straitjackets was at a live concert back in 1996, in Cleveland, Ohio (of all places). I was totally blown away! Great surf guitar music, and the band performed in Mexican wrestling masks. Their first album has more raw surf-guitar energy than this one, but the sounds on this "Viva" album are more sophisticated. My favorite song is the Lonely Apache. Try to imagine the Marlboro Man hanging ten on a surf board. Besides, if you love surf guitar and already have Los Straitjackets' first album, you'll just have to have this one.

A great live band! They are from Nashville but they only speak to the audience in Spanish. Add the wrestling masks and funny dances and you have a killer live band. Their musicianship backs it up too, as this cd proves. Eddie Angel rocks! Produced by Ben Vaughn who gave you the tv theme song to Third Rock From the Sun.
