Thank's BM April 23, 2008 Brett A. Waller (Ponca City, OK United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm not one to type long messages, so this will be short and to the point. I actually bought this cd at their show in New Orleans last week (4/17). It hasn't left my cd player since. Like alot of folks have said, Travis will never replace Shannon, but at least we get more Blind Melon. Travis is still a great addition....check out Cheetum Street (w/ Travis' mom on back-up vocals). It's about time a good album has come along. On a side note; 90% of music today consists of regurgitated crap and lack of talent. Thanks for more talented and original music BM!!!! It's about time. Rest in peace brother Hoon.
Good effort May 5, 2008 Tyler Durden 3 out of 6 found this review helpful
Blind Melon For MY Friends is a decent album. Musically it stands up to Soup and the self titled debut. WHere this album misses is the lyrics. Travis Warren's voice is great and live the new line up are incredible. However the lyrics on this album are borderline dreadful. "When you fall back down and you lost your crown get back up, walk around turn that frown upside down" from Wishing Well. "I went drivin' today couldn't help but think of how you're with somebody else and now you've got a child It's been a few years Since I saw you last I know you're doin' fine you don't miss the broken glass" from Tumbling Down. The lyrics are from the Lenny Kravitz school of rhyme scheme and simplicity. The lyrics truly knock off several stars from this otherwise potentially great album.
Shannon would be proud! April 23, 2008 John Philippi (Irving, TX) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is a great addition to the Blind Melon catalog, even though Shannon's not here in the flesh to be a part of it. Blind Melon really is a band with a unique sound, and I think that comes through in this album. Rogers Stevens' uplifting guitar licks compliment Travis Warren's soulful vocals nicely, and the music all seems to fit together just like the old days. I had the privilege of seeing these guys twice on this tour, and I can say without hesitation that they still have the magic and wonder that is Blind Melon. This record is definitely worth your money!
13 Songs for 13 Years April 23, 2008 J. Verster (South Africa) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Finally! What a great album, what a great band! The album is smooth and rich, complete and truly sounds like the blind melon i missed so much. Thow they have something different stirring around in the pot we can again appreciate the true sounds of the melon era!! There is a song on this album for every year lost, and it's worth it!!! Greetings from South Africa!!! Melon fan forever.
Listen Straight through April 23, 2008 Jeremy (California) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This is an amazing album you can listen to straight through over and over again. From the title track For My Friends you get the feeling that even though they were gone for so long they still have the connection and you can tell Travis is having more fun then ever with his histerical laughing at the end of the song. Seriously buy this album if your sick of this cry baby bland music out these days. Amazing Album. I recommend Down on the Pharmacy.
