5 out of 5 stars Travis is back   April 28, 2008

Funny enough, I found about this new album from doing Google searches for Rain Fur Rent, Travis' former band. I saw them in SLO a few years ago and they became one of my favorite bands. I went online looking for new material, and discovered via his MySpace that Rain Fur Rent has disbanded, but that he's now part of Blind Melon...crazy! Way to go Travis! This guy's insanely talented and down to earth. Best of luck on the new project. You may have made other Blind Melon fans happy, but you made this Rain Fur Rent fan happy.

WOW, I had the pleasure of seeing them in October in Vermont at the start of their first tour, It was so emotional and warming, I had never been to a better concert ( I was never able to catch them in concert with Shannon). I saw them twice again this month in Austin and in Houston and was blown away yet again. This album is fresh, intelligent, comforting like soul food. These guys are the best. What a way to memorialize Shannon!!

I wasn't a fan of Blind Melon in the 90's. I liked their catchy, poppy, "No Rain", but never gave either album a listen.
Their sound is something I now appreciate. From the cover you see something that looks like it should belong on the sleeve of a 12"vinyl rather than behind the plastic of a CD case. You could degrade the sound quality and pass them off as an early 70's band to someone who has never heard of Blind Melon.
It is this timeless type of sound which has made this CD one of my favorites. I can now see why I missed them back in the 90's with all the grunge rock that the Houston radio station hasn't stopped playing since then.
Blind Melon is a bit folkier than what you expect from most rock today and back then. You won't find them screaming to violent overdriven guitars. However you can definetely jam out and sing along to this album.
Most noteably is that there isn't a bad song on the whole album. Not even one! Every song rocks! The closest they come to a mellow song is on the last song , Cheetum Street, which is a great song. The girl singing backup is a dead ringer for Stevie Nicks, further strengthing my conviction that Blind Melon is actually an escaped band from a time before mine. If you like rock music, you need this album.

5 out of 5 stars The simple pleasure that is blind melon   May 1, 2008

Words cant really describe how fantastic this band is live, but it's pretty damn amazing. Everyone is always saying how Travis will never be a shannon, but one thing ive noticed is, Shannon's voice translated better on the recordings, but when I saw him live it was never as prominent. With travis, I dont think he comes over quite as great on the record as he does live. In concert he was incredible, truly has a live voice. This is way off track, but anyhow, I love this album. The only track I have a slight problem with is "wishing well" oddly enough. This is the one they pick for the single yet it's my least favorite. It's the only song on the album that I really find the lyrics cliche and generic, every other track o the CD is amazing and I couldnt be happier to own this album. Welcome back boys, you really brought it!!

This record is perfect. I saw Blind Melon on 4/20/08 in Houston. We were on the front row, infront of Chris. They rocked it for 2 solid hours.
