Skillet does it again October 21, 2006 P. Martins (Fresno, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Skillet has always been one of my favorite bands, each album they've released had a bit of a different twist on it. The lyrics on comatose was defenitely some of the best lyrics they have ever written. They've taken a more soft approach towards the music though and I miss the awesome guitar sounds they introduced in Collide, but still the album remains a must for christian rock lovers.
More like two and a half, but I'm being nice.... November 2, 2006 Jaredbob (Powder Springs, GA) 1 out of 7 found this review helpful
Well, I admit I was excited when I heard there was a new Skillet CD out. After finally making some awsome music on Collide after their techno infused alien youth and invincible, I was hoping for another Album resembling Collide, but that didn't happen and i was left dissapointed. With Collide they finally found how to just plain rock, and Collide was a gem, let me tell you. But now they've left the Collide sound behind for something more poppy. The cover art suggests it amy be a heaveier CD, but it aint. On hearing the first song, I was like, "This sounds pretty cool," and then the second song sounded even cooler, and I was thinking this would be great album but then the third song came...and it went down from there. Track seven is definatly the worst of the worst songs on this album, it sounds all popish and whatnot. The songs I dont like on this Cd are: 3,6,7,and 9. The mediocre songs include 5, 8 (Which has a killer opening but the rest of the song is just not that great,) and 11. So the songs that are actually good are 1,2,4, and 10. Those songs rock but the other seven just aren't that great. Hopefully on their next CD (if there IS a next CD) they will return with better rock. Buy Collide , but don't waste your money on your their other stuff, it just isn't worth it.
Skillfull, melodic and deliberate. November 2, 2006 Jorge H. Padilla Leal (San Pedro, NL MEXICO) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Too much like Nickelback?? Wow, at first I thought IGN used that as a compliment. Apparently it was the other way around. Maybe that is my problem, I like Nickelback, or at least I like a lot of their songs, specially the last album All The Right Reasons. Maybe IGN hates Nickelback's guts like many other critics I've read. Still, I bet Nickelback will keep on laughing their way to the bank and sold-out concerts. Ironically, the IGN review actually made me go and listen to album and realize how cool it really is. As I found out reading on other sites, fans of the group love this cd and even go far as saying this is Skillet greatest and most accesible album to date and rightly so, Skillet's Comatose is full of skill and completely self-aware. That's what I like about the album. Yes there are some songs that remind you of other groups, for example, I was reminded of Evanescence in some tracks (like the awesome title track "Comatose") and some to Nickelback ("Say Goodbye"), hell sometimes they even kind of sound like another great Christian group called Anberlin (check their song "Paperthin Hymn", a true gem), nevertheless the songs are original enough to stand on their own and to satisfy anyone hungry for good melodic rock. In fact, the album has both ballads and hard-hitting rock making this a very versatile, balanced and recommendable album. I really suggest you take at least a listen to the 30-second snippets of the album in iTunes and judge for yourself. Standout tracks: 1. Comatose 2. Whispers in the Dark 3. The Last Night 4. The Older I Get 5. Say Goodbye

Skillet - Comatose (4.5 stars) December 17, 2006 RaisedOnSpitalfield ((South) Medford, Oregon 5-4-1) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The Up Side: Many bands these days lack originality. That, however, is NOT the case with Skillet. "Comatose" is an accessible mix of heavy, hard hitting rock tied in with subtle electronic elements and the occasional female vocals. At the surface, you might be thinking of yet another variation on the successful linkin park formula, but to truly understand the Skillet style, you have to just listen for yourself. Big riffs, bigger hooks, pianos and digital tracks, soaring vocal patters; Skillet has never sounded better. The Down Side: Hardcore christian fans may be a bit unsettled by the lack of "message" this time around. It's my guess that Skillet wanted to break out into the mainstream, and in doing so, checked their bibles at the door. Although subtle themes of hope tie into many of the songs here, they're so hard to decode that one would easily miss them by not listening with full attention. By NO MEANS is comatose a preachy record, and only time will tell if that helps or hurts Skillet. The Conclusion: Comatose is as close to a 5 star record as one can get, without actually being perfect. Anyone who likes anything from decyfer down to breaking benjamin, nickelback to tfk, will appreciate and enjoy Skillet's Comatose LP. Finally, a full-length WORTH SPENDING 12 DOLLARS ON!!!! The End.
