Will not disappoint November 5, 2007 Stephen Carlson (Minneapolis, MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There is a lack of original and artistic christian music out there these day. Phil Wickham, however, does not fall into this category. The music is very passionate and melodic and the lyrics aren't the typical Bible-verses-set-to-music format that so many christian artists have adopted in order to avoid writing original lyrics. If you like David Crowder you will enjoy Phil Wickham for a lot of the same reasons.
Bono-Keane? Whatever, it sounds awesome! November 14, 2007 Darth Wader (Aylett, VA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I'm going to join in with the other reviewers and tell how great this CD is. Yes, Phil Wickham's voice sounds very similar to Bono at times and most often like the lead singer of Keane at other times...maybe even a splash of Martin Smith from Delirious? at other times. But his music and lyrics and passion are all his own. The CD kicks off with "Must I Wait" and the lyrics/music are outstanding. And the rest of the CD does not disappoint, whether upbeat or mellow. Yes, he wears his influences on his sleeve, but this is a fresh take on worship music. I look forward to getting his first album as well as future albums to come. Great, great, great! Oh, and one more thing...this CD has some sweet bass lines. I hate when praise and worship albums have boring bass. But this CD is filled with some of the best rockin' bass, so crank it up!
Great Album of Praise to God! August 12, 2008 Kevin R. Davis (Perkasie, PA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a must-have album for any fan of Keane, U2, The Fray and Snow Patrol on the mainstream side (all favorites of mine) or Telecast, Starfield and Leeland (also favorites). Phil Wickham is one of the best new solo artists I've heard in the last few years and writes and sings songs with an amazing passion and with unashamed praise and gratitude to our Savior! My favorite songs on Cannons are the incredible title song which is a great anthem of praise to our God. Also, the tender and reflective The Light Will Come, the catchy and upbeat After Your Heart, and hymn-like and prayerful You're Beautiful. My favorite song is the extremely powerful True Love which builds to the exclamation "Jesus is Alive!"
What an album June 22, 2008 Kingstone (Lyon, France) This album is a little bit more rock than what phil has done before but just a litlle. All the songs a well written and they just take you to the prescence of God just in instant. Buy this album and you will see. God bless you phil.
Worth Every Penny July 2, 2008 Lillian Claire Cannons is amazing! (I admit . . . I am a little biased because I absolutely love Phil Wickham!) This album is such a step up from the last one, and I enjoy every minute of it. Phil's fresh sound and sincere worship makes this album rise to the top of my fave five list. It is definitely worth every penny!!!
