Beautiful Brightman ! January 29, 2008 Jim Z 11 out of 14 found this review helpful
A stunning release by a superb artist ! This is Sarah's fullest sounding cd release yet. There is ALOT going on in just about every track on the disc , yet it never overpowers the vocal talent that Sarah prominently displays. Each song is a gem ! The first 3 alone are worth the price of the disc. The title track is a breathtaking melody that upon after just a couple listens--you will be whistling or humming. The duet with Andrea Bocelli rivals "Time To Say Goodbye" in both beauty and performance. (And I'm sure MANY people will wonder , as I did , why a duet with Paul Stanley from KISS......but rest assured , it works wonderfully as well !) Buy this now..And oh , by the way , don't be too quick to take the cd out of the player , as an uncredited instrumental track follows minutes after the "last track" ends.......could it be a "symphony" ?
WOW! January 29, 2008 W. Burke (Ca, USA) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
This cd was well worth the wait!! I bought it really early this morning right as the stores were opening, and I have to say that I am completely blown away once again. There isn't one song on this entire cd that I dislike, each one has it's own unique quality about it. This new theme of hers is awesome.....I swear this woman can create any style of music she wants and make it her own every time. The artwork and pictures are absolutely stunning, its a lovely new look for her =). So go pick up this cd, you will not be disappointed!
There are no words, really! January 29, 2008 Boetius (Riverdale, PA) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I will leave to others to explicate this cd in depth and detail, I will share merely my intial emotional response: I love it, it is brilliant, it raises my consciousness in places to a nearly divine level, and I would die for Sarah!
Dissapointed after such a long wait January 30, 2008 Ryan (Poughkeepsie, NY) 9 out of 24 found this review helpful
I wanted to like this album. I wanted to LOVE it. I was so very excited to finally hear it. But there are only a handful of really good songs (which isn't a bad thing though) Gothica - Not going to review this since it is only an intro. But I do like it for what it's worth Fleur Du Mal - Well this album starts off great enough. One of Sarah's best songs ever. It gives me goosebumps from beginning to the end of this song. Will be great in concert. Grade: A Symphony - A signature Sarah song. One of her most depressing songs ever. And yet so beautiful. Grade: A+ Canto Della Terra (with Andrea Bocelli) - Very powerful and beautiful song. So glad they got together to do another song again. Though it left me wanting more. Grade: B+ Sanvean - Sadly this is where the album declines. This is complete filler. Too slow. No chorus. She barley sings in this. It feels more like an interlude. A long interlude. It's just plain bad. More boring than elevator music. Grade: F I Will Be With You - I actually love this version. Her voice blends perfectly with Paul. Very beautiful, and again very depressing. This one will be on repeat a lot. Grade: A- Schwere Traume - Another very bland track. Too boring. She sings a bit more than she does on Sanvean. But it's still dull as ever. Grade: F Sarai Qui - The music is nice. The verses are ok. She doesn't sing that much with the other guy though. And each time their voices build up with the music. It's nice. But ends too soon. I keep thinking it is only going to get better. But then it just ends. Grade: C- Storia D'amore - Sadly another boring song. I like how the music gets better out of no where. But that's the only pleasing part. Sarah's voice just doesn't go anywhere. Grade: F Let It Rain - Beautiful music! Love the light touch of those few piano notes. This song keeps your attention from the beginning to the end. And I like how the end chorus gets more powerful. A very cute song. Grade: B+ Attesa - Again...dullsville. I don't like this type of music from Sarah. It just doesn't go anywhere. I know not all songs have to be powerful, or have a catchy hook to be good. But it's gotta have just a little something. Even if I could understand the language, I don't think it'd help. Sorry Sarah. While your voice is always pleasant (at the very least) in every song on here...it needs to have just a tiny bit more. Grade: F Pasion - Now here is a beautiful song. From the first few seconds of the music alone. This song just captures you. Sarah and Fernando's voices are absolutely perfect together. What a beautiful love song. Completely flawless. Grade: A+ Running - Love the intro, love the energetic music. Love the ABBA like feel to this. But the main part of the song (the chorus "Keeeep on ruuuunning) ends much earlier than it should and then she's back to singing the outro again. Too much great build up, only for a short chorus, and then goes right to the outro. But still a great song all together. Grade: A- Overall I am disappointed. But there are enough songs to keep me interested. And enough to NOT say "Sarah what have you done?!" After all I know she had to please all her different types of fans that she has. Which isn't easy to do. But I still am, and always will be a fan. But this album is still worth purchasing (if not for the stunning album cover alone!) to add to your Sarah collection.
A good, decent album from Sarah Brightman February 1, 2008 James Roman (Houston, Texas United States) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
Symphony is Sarah Brightman's first studio album in 4 years, so it's been quite a wait! The last time we heard her was on Harem, which was an incredible concept album. Now comes Symphony, and yes it's a good album, but still falls short of where it could've been. The album begins very strongly, with the haunting instrumental "Gothica" intro that segues wonderfully into the dramatic "Fleurs du Mal". This is by far the best track on the album. It's thrilling, dark and possibly one of the best songs Sarah has ever done. Once it's over, it slows down for the beautiful "Symphony", which has totally grown on me. After this one, the album sadly falls apart a bit. We're treated to some beautiful duets, and some soaring arias, but the album doesn't quite attain that fire that started it. "Canto Della Terra" is pretty good, but it builds up too soon and too dramatically. It almost takes you by surprise, especially since Andrea Bocelli's voice overpowers Sarah's. "Sanvean" is nice and haunting, but goes nowhere. "I Will Be With You" is a good song that strongly reminds me of her album, Fly (except softer). It's one of the better songs on here. After this is filler: "Schwere Traume", "Sarai Qui", "Storie D'Amore". Those songs are just bland. It picks up again with the beautiful "Let It Rain", slows down again with "Attesa", then back up again with the GORGEOUS "Pasion". The album ends with the upbeat "Running", which is clearly an attempt to recreate her earlier hit, "A Question of Honour" from the Fly album. But while "Running" is a good song, it's not as striking as "Honour" and fails to reach that mark. This album has great potential, but it doesn't capture me the way that Eden, La Luna or Harem did. Still, I find myself listening to it a lot because it IS pretty, just not epic like her previous records. This is sad because the amazing photography and album art/packaging suggests an album of tremendous quality. However, I was definitely left wanting more.
