A fantastically awesome album. Definitely NOT a retro thing, either. April 19, 2007 Joseph M. Siegler (Garland, TX USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is a review written in sections from three different years. Original 2003 Review: It's taken six years for another Pat Benatar record to be released (not counting a plethora of live and greatest hits albums which I ignored). My wife and I went to see Pat Benatar in concert on Aug 9th 2003, and it was wonderful. They had Go for sale (when we were at the concert, hadn't yet been released which was very cool to see). So I picked it up. Listened to it in the car on the way home, and on first listen, there's quite a lot of really good stuff on it. Go, Girl, Have it All, are amongst the highlights. A definite must buy - it's quite bloody good! Update 1: As I update this in October 2004, I have to say this album is a great mix of her new adult rock style, with some smatterings of her older styles thrown in. Not to say she's returned to the 80's but this is more a rock album than Innamorata is. Right up there with Innamorata (which is my favorite all time Benatar album), in my opinion. Update 2: As I update this yet again in April 2007, this album has grown stronger. When most people think of Pat Benatar, they think of what they remember from the 1980's. Now there's nothing wrong with the music from then, but remembering someone as an 80's artist pigenholes them into what they can be perceived in doing. Go destroys that. As some of the other reviews here have stated, Go is an ignored album. Ask your average rock fan if they have this, they'll likely say no, followed by "She's still making records", and then most likely think about the "80's stereotype". That's a damn shame. I run a website for the band Black Sabbath. I point that out, because I should, by the stereotype be the last person to love this album. The heck with that - great music is great music. This is a brilliantly strong record from start to finish. There's no filler here, and I cannot recommend this album strongly enough. It's hard to pick out individual tracks for praise because I like so many of them, but if I had to, my favorite is "Brokenhearted". But it's all good.
Pat Benatar is back! August 18, 2003 Robert G Yokoyama (Mililani, Hawaii) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Pat Benatar is back in a big way with Go. This CD reestablishes Pat Benatar's reputation as a major talent in rock and pop music. 1. Go- The title track is a wonderful feisty rock song with the kind of energy and spunk Pat Benatar is known for. Neil Giraldo plays great guitar rifts on this track. rating 10/10 2. Brave- This is a very pretty song about having someone to lean on when times get tough. This song reminds me of her hit song We Belong from the 80's. rating 10/10 3. I Won't- This is another great rock song about what it feels like when a loved one turns their back on you. rating 9/10 4. Have It All- This song is ok just not one of my favorites. This song lacks the meaningful lyrics of the other tracks. rating 7/10 5. Sorry- This is a good song about how people hurt each other in a relationship. This song is about having the maturity and willingness to start on a new foot. Great guitar playing on this track. rating 10/10 6. Please Don't Leave Me- This is a very pretty song about trying to hold on to someone you love One of my favorite tracks on this CD. rating 10/10 7. Girl- This is a good song with thoughtful lyrics about standing up for yourself and finding your own direction in life. 9/10 8. Out of the Ruins- This song sounds like something you would hear in an opera. It is a very dramatic song and showcases Pat Benatar's vocal range. I enjoyed it very much. rating 9/10 9. In My Dreams- This is a slow song with hypnotic lyrics and sexy guitar rifts. rating 8/10 10. Tell me-- This song is about searching for a reason to stay in a bad relationship. rating 9/10 11. Brokenhearted-- I love this song. The lyrics are very powerful. Miss Benatar sounds great on this track. This song will be a radio hit very soon. I also love the bonus Christmas track here too.
Best Benatar CD since "Crimes Of Passion"!! September 10, 2003 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
As a long time Benatar fan, I must admit that her CD's in the 90's were a bit hit and miss. They had some good songs, but overall they were just okay. So, with that in mind I did not expect much from this CD. I am amazed at how good it is. I have no idea why some people are complaining about Neil's production on this CD, I think it's great. This CD is both lush and loud - all at the right times. I was a bit disappointed in that I had expected to hear a more guitar driven songs on this CD like those found on "Precious Time", but instead there seems to be more softer pop/rock songs. But my disappointment was soon gone when the quality of all of the songs quickly had me singing along. Pat and Neil sound like they should and yet they have updated their sound to be fresh and very enjoyable. Treat yourself to some great music, you won't be sorry!
Pat Benatar is still one of the best September 26, 2003 Undertaker 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
With this new album, Pat Benatar has returned to rock us again. Her mainstream hard rock is combined with songs from the heart, and that heart shines through every second of this record. In an era where classic hard rock is out of touch with current trends, Pat makes a record for the loyal followers of the genre. Always the most talented of female rockers, Pat has created another gem with "GO". If you enjoy Pat Benatar's classic work, or classic hard rock in general, purchase this disc. Enjoy some real music, not the candy store pop of today's music climate.
After All These Years Pat's Still Is The Best!! March 9, 2004 TerriS (USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have always loved Pat Benatar's music from the first time I heard "Heartbreaker" back in 1979 (how times flys). Having owed many of her albums, I saw this latest cd at a local music store and bought it. After listening to it, Pat still amazes me with her strong voice. Her husband Neil Giraldo's guitar playing is awesome, playing both acoustic and electric guitar. There isn't one bad song on the cd, everything from all out rockers to nice acoustic guitar songs. I was lucky enough to see her perform recently and she is unbelievable. At close to 50, she hasn't lost any of the energy that made her the 80's best female vocalist.
