PERFECT! Best Metal CD of 2008! Dokken still Rules.... May 13, 2008 J. Gazzuolo (Ohio) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
It's all here.....the classic riffs, Don's melodic voice, the harmonies, etc! Jon Levin shines like no other with solos all over the place. Don sounds very good still and puts a heck of an effort into this. This recording sounds like classic Dokken without sounding dated. If you ever liked Dokken or melodic metal then you must pick this up now! This cd will win awards for metal cd of the year!!!
This is Dokken's "Beatles White Album"!!! May 14, 2008 Daniel T. Maddock (Denver, CO) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
Where do I begin? This is the record Dokken fans have been begging for! Granted, I liked Hell To Pay, Long Way Home, and Erase the Slate but Lightning Strikes Again (LSA) is heads and tails a much more cohesive, stronger collection of songs. Well crafted, great lyrics (as usual for Dokken), and tasty licks and catchy riffs. As usual, Dokken has a stand out album title and its almost ironic-they take the title from a song off of Under Lock & Key-an album Don has often referred to when asked what the sound of LSA would sound like. Could it serve as an ode to their past with this title? Regardless, the title, artwork, and -most importantly- the songs are fantastic. This, in my opinion, is Dokken's "Beatles White Album." The only thing I would have LOVED to see here is a solo instrumental song, showcasing Jon Levin's wicked guitar skills. I think that as a sign of respect to Levin and an eye to Dokken's future, putting a guitar instrumental on the album would have been great addition. Perhaps next album. Other than that, this is a gem and will be one of the best albums of 2008. LSA is a 5 star album that belongs in a class with Metallica's Black Album, Green Day's 'Warning', and Godsmack's 'Four.' These are all examples of outstanding records with no filler and Dokken certainly fills that category IMHO. Three words: Get This Record!!!

Don't waste you money on this. If you are a true Dokken fan, you will hate it. Every song sounds kind of the same. This sounds like the same garbage on Long Way Home and Hell to Pay. Erase the Slate was the last good Dokken recording.
Best Dokken LP in quite some time May 17, 2008 John C. Bitante (New Jersey, USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
In looking at the previous reviews, it seems to me that most people that gave this album a poor review do so by way of comparison. No - this is not Dokken circa 1986 with George Lynch shredding every song and Don's voice in his prime. But for the 2008 version of Dokken, this is a very good album. I have to agree with several of the previous reviewers in that 'Hell to Pay' and 'Long Way Home' were forgettable albums. I listened to each of those albums from the beginnig to end and except for maybe 1 catchy song on each I felt no reason to play them again. Not so with LSA. This is a very strong album, with a nice mix of up-tempo tunes mixed with a few ballads. And who in the Metal world sings a love-gone-bad ballad better than Don Dokken? I was very pleasantly surprised by Jon Levin's guitar work, and Mick was spot-on with the drums as always. Some of my favorites were "Standing on the Outside", "Heart To Stone", "How I MIss Your Smile", "I Remember" (great guitar work here), and "This Fire". This album has found it's way into my CD changer since I bought it, and I don't se it coming out any time soon. Now - is this as good as some of those great Dokken albums of the 80's - not quite - but when judged on its own it is a solid album. I don't think any Dokken or Hard Rock fan for that fact would be disappointed!
Dokken - Rocks on!!!!! May 19, 2008 DokkenGal (Denver, Co USA) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
WOW! Don promised a hard rockin album, and he sure delievered!! This is an amazingly crunchy/poppy/harmonic CD!! I love everything Dokken has ever done, including Don's latest solo venture. But this even surprised me. After the first riff, I thought to myself - OMG, GEORGE LYNCH!!! Jon Levin has almost pulled off the impossible. I swear he sounds just like George Lynch on this CD. It's hard not to think George is playing on this! I have to pinch myself to say, "This is not Under Lock and Key!" It sounds so 80's and so heavy - I just love it! "THIS FIRE" has a really kick-butt riff that just goes and goes - and Don's lyrics throughout the album are top - notch. What a treat! THANK YOU DOKKEN!!!!!!! KEEP THE FIRE BURNING! 80's METAL STILL RULES!
