Review from an expert May 20, 2008 Juan Licon (Los Angeles, CA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This is by far their best material since Hysteria. Every single song from the sparkle lounge is evidence of these 5 guys extreme talent. Perfect timing for a perfect album like this. SFTSL definitely sounds like Def Leppard; it rocks and it has the ingredients to become the best rock album of the year, it's already been #1 for several weeks in the classic rock stations and reached #14 in mainstream. Highly recommended! You're buying one of the best albums from one of the best bands in Rock history
This album is not Hysteria or Pyromania so get over it!!! May 22, 2008 Kathrine Mlac 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I read a good majority of the reviews on this album and even previous Def Leppard album reviews and even though these are just opinions it really irks me to see after all these years of them being a band saying things like "when Steve Clark died they died", or "if Mutt Lange didn't produce the album its crap" or even "this doesn't sound like Hysteria or Pyromania it sucks"... How many more albums does Def Leppard have to make for people to realize it will NEVER be Pyromania or Hysteria. Yes, it took a few times for me to listen to the cd to start enjoying it, but when I played it I wasn't thinking oh well this doesn't sound like their style from the 80's etc and throw it out the window... they are not the only band that evolves over time. I'm not saying that you have to like it but atleast have valid reasons rather than the ones above because Steve Clark is never coming back to life, Mutt Lange will most likely never produce another one of their albums ( and even if he did it doesn't mean its going to sound like Hysteria or Pyromania), and last but not least its 2008 not 1980's. I've been a Def Leppard fan for a long time now and I think they did a great job with this album, keep on rocking boys!!!!!
Best New Material From Leppard Since Hysteria May 23, 2008 JASON (Hazard, Kentucky USA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This CD probably contains the best all around new material tracks from the English guys since the 80s. And it doesn't necessarily sound like 80s music. Yea, it has the unmistakeable Def Leppard sound, but with a little edge and updated. Good combination of tracks. The band is tight and Joe Elliot is right on the money. The song "Nine Lives" with Tim McGraw is a great rocker. If you are a Def Leppard Fan, listen to the samples. I believe you will find this one to be a good one. Also, if you like new hard rocking material, give Whitesnake's "Good To Be Bad" a listen. Excellent also.
I think this is Classic Lep June 2, 2008 M. Evans 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
After reading some of the other reviews, I hear a lot of crankiness from Lep fans about silly titles, not as good as Pyromania, boring, stale, etc. Because I appreciate many different types of music, I might be a little more forgiving. Def Leppard is my favorite rock band, and has been for years...I even liked Slang, OK? SO maybe I'm not as great a music critic as some of the other reviewers, but I really like this album. I seriously enjoyed the sentimental trip down memory lane with "Yeah", but this album is full of Classic Lep. Great melodic songs, classic catchy riffs, and memorable lyrics make this a very listenable CD. Front to back, every song is great. Standouts to me include "Love", an almost Beatle-esque ballad, "Go", the albums hard-charging opener, and "Only the Good Die Young", a memorable, catchy tribute to the late Steve Clark. In my opinion, the band came up with a modern take on their signature sound and expanded it significantly. Early influences on the band are apparent (if you are a person who happens to be about the same age as the band members...younger listeners may not as easily recognize it). Speaking of age, if you happen to be a lady of a certain (clears throat) ...vintage, like me, do yourself a favor and watch the video for "Nine Lives". So much eye-candy in one place...you know what I mean!
Def Leppard out and out rock on this one. April 29, 2008 MID SARNO (Anywhere, USA) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I heard the samples on amazon prior to the album's release and after the initial spin of it I have to tell that this album just rocks. Seems the band had some fun making this one. Highlights are Go, Cmon, Cmon, and the rest of the album!!! There is something for every Def Lepp fan and I think a lot of the other casual listeners will be pleasantly surprised. A solid album all around. Turn it up and enjoy throughout the summer.
