A HUGE improvement over other 12C's August 3, 2006 The Ponz (Honolulu, HI United States) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
If you hate the "running...running...running" while solving for interest rate, this calculator is for you. Its very fast in all calcs, similar to the 17BII in my opinion. It also looks much nicer than the current 12C Platinum.
The Gold, uh, Silver Standard in Financial Calculators October 11, 2006 DLF (Denver area, CO USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
No, the quality heft and feel of the original (1981) 12C calculators made in Oregon, USA, is not quite there in the latest "Made in China" incarnation. But just about everything else is better than the original, including speed of program execution (3-5X faster), number of programmable steps (now 400), and additional support for Algebraic input mode on top of the default RPN. Now it even has an Undo function, albeit one of fairly limited usefulness, in addition to the fairly useful backspace function. This thing is still the "gold" standard in its category, with a silvery finish or otherwise.
HP 12C Platinum Anniversary Edition January 19, 2007 George-O (Pacific NW USA) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
Good: Faster than original HP 12C. Bad: No display flash to confirm an entry like my original USA-made HP 12C. Bad: Keys still feel cheap compared to my original USA-made HP 12C.

The first thing you will notice is the color scheme. Gold has been replaced by platinum (silver) surrounding the screen. The yellow function key [f] and its related commands are now reddish (actually a burnt orange). The weight of the model is the same as my twenty-plus year old model (Why was I afraid it would be lighter?). But the processor speed is a substantial improvement. This is what all the fuss should be about. A monthly mortgage payment calculation - $210,000 at 6.125% for 20 years, end of the month - takes 2 seconds (-$1519.69)on the original model. On the new edition this answer flashes instantly. Calculating the yield to maturity (YTM) for a municipal bond trading at 101.25 with a 4.25% coupon for 20 years takes 20 hum-de-dum seconds ("running...running...running") on my scratched-up 'old buddy'. This answer comes in just 3 merciful seconds (4.16%) on my new model. HP, you have done good. This 25th anniversary calc comes with a beautiful leather case-folder with a plastic window for your business card. The case is twice the thickness of the old soft leather dust cover. It fits into my inside jacket pocket, but its thickness may take a little getting used to (HP: why not a belt clip?).
Once you figure out how to use it, you can't go back December 15, 2006 John E (Seattle, WA USA) 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
pro's: -A lot nicer looking than the standard edition. -A "LOT" faster than the standard, in fact there is no comparison -Once you know the formulas, this instrument does all the thinking for you and it's a beautiful thing Con's: The Inverse computing for basic math equations is just weird, and it took me literally half an hour until I figured out how to get the answer to 5 + 5, but that is just because I didn't understand the system. Once you understand it, it's simple, just different. I was in a class on investment models and it was very satisfying hearing that everybody else went to electronics stores to pay more for their standard edition than I did for the superior anniversary edition, and I was always the first one with the right answer because while theirs were "thinking" for 5 seconds on each computation, mine was done due to the faster chip. Great purchase!
