An EXCELLENT Choice for a Financial Calculator or 12C Upgrade! September 24, 2006 quickbiscuit 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This will sound crazy to everyone except those like me, but I have become an HP 12C FANATIC because of this calculator. I have gone through the entire manual (with the exception of programming) and thoroughly enjoyed learning all of this calculator's features. Prior to owning the 12C Platinum, I used a Sharp EL-733A. The 12C is 10 times the calculator that the 733A is. The bond and depreciation functions are excellent and the 12C is much faster than the 733A. Most finance professors will tell you that by simply walking into a bank with this calculator you are already a step ahead. One professor claimed that you didn't even have to know what you were doing - just press a few buttons in front of the loan officer and they will know they're dealing with someone that knows the language! Instant loan approval! The 12C Platinum Anniversary Edition is a sharp looking instrument with tons of features. The second and third functions above and below each key are easy to read on the black background. I find the undo and backspace keys rarely useful, and algebraic mode is pretty much useless if you are an RPN-guru or to those that will take a few minutes to learn RPN. It is hard to beat the classic Gold 12C, however. The only reason that I would rate the 25th Anniversary Edition higher than the original is because of the faster processing rate. HP's claims are dead-on; I measure this calculator to be 5-6 times faster than the original in most all instances and sometimes faster than that. I believe the faster speed is reason enough to justify the extra cost. That being said, I loved the 25th Anniversary Edition so much that I ordered the original Gold 12C just a few days later! I had to compare the two, and I thought it would be nice to have a spare. Either way, you can't go wrong with the HP 12C!
Excellent financial calculator January 10, 2007 T. Hanson (Purcellville, VA USA) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I have found the calculator to be very helpful. The user guide is well written -- it was easy to learn the basics when I first started using the calculator, and then to find and learn more advanced topics as my comfort with the basics improved.
HP 12C January 12, 2007 D. Tait (Ridgewood, NJ United States) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is my 3rd 12C. (The first one got crushed, the second had a bad keyboard.) It's a workhorse financial calculator, the Platinum edition is faster and more powerful. It should last the rest of my life (I'm 68). Unconditional recommendation.
My 4th HP 12C May 19, 2007 J. W. LaValle (Southern California) I bought one of the very first HP 12Cs out of the initial production run in the early 80s. I used it so much, in so many diverse climates that I ultimately wore down the keys, so I bought another after 10 years...10 years passed and I bought another. Sooooo, there was no way I could resist the Platinum Anniversary Edition with its subtle improvements and gorgeous storage case. In fact, I bought one for every one in the family and for some colleagues as well. I have tried many calculators over the years but always return to the timeless HP 12C form factor. Nothing beats it and I am NEVER without it!
Best financial calculator November 10, 2006 BallsOutPunk (NC) 4 out of 7 found this review helpful
This is the best financial calculator money can buy, but it would be nice if the display were more advanced and allowed the user to graphically scroll through previous calculations. Nonetheless, it's still the best available.
