Awesome calculator! January 4, 2007 Joe Perez 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I ordered this calculator based on reviews I read. I am in financial services, and I needed a really good, quality financial calculator. I am impressed with this calculator and would recommend it to any serious MBA or finace guru.

Excellent product. Does the job very well. Our prof. at business school mentioned that he has been using this instrument for several years now and I can see why.

I am the owner of an original HP 12C purchased in 1981. I gave it to my [...] daughter who is able to understand this device (it is more than 2 X older than she is!). The HP 12C Platinum was an emotional purchase which will serve me for the next 26 years! There is no other financial calculator with equal power in a shirt pocket form. Any function I need which is not preprogrammed I can program myself with the easy programming mode. The Platinum model has a faster processor, more programming memory and BOTH ALG and RPN entry modes.

The 25th anniversary HP 12C Platinum is definitely faster than its predecessor. Good user manual, geeks will find it hard to put the unit down. The HP 12C has its strengths, particularly in chain calculations and one button percentage functions - % plus or minus, %change, %total, markup , margin as well as G.P. calculations. Once you learn RPN and how the HP stack handles numbers, you'll leave your colleagues in the dust with most everyday figuring. Comprehensive financial functions are fast, but don't lose the book. Even so, I'm hooked on this "retro" calculator.

While in the process of getting ready to take my CFA exam, I came across the dilemma of choosing a calculator: the TI BAII Plus or the HP 12C. Having no previous background on either option, I did all the research online and was initially leaning over to the TI BA II Plus (or Plus professional), mainly because of the big buttons and bigger screen. However, I was then peer pressured by my colleagues to go for the HP 12C, as I was told that every business man in Wall street has this calculator, and I will look like the 'new kid on the block' if I were to get a TI. Needlesstosay, I opted for the HP 12C Platinum edition and am an extremely satisfied customer! In the beginning, I took a couple of hours to go over the functions, and it is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Infact, there are 2 modes, and if you use the 'algebraic' mode, it is just like using any other calculator. It has all the functions I could ever want and apparantly is much faster at finding results than the HP 12C original. If you're going to take the CFA exam, look no further. The HP 12C Platinum is the ideal selection.
