2 out of 5 stars Fairly good at the beginning, died out after 9 months   July 3, 2004

I paid a high price for this ($30), and after about 9 months of use, I started having problems with people not hearing me AT ALL! I thought it was the line or the phone, but after I changed that (I am looking for a better cordless), it immediately became clear the problem was with the headset. No wonder warranty is only for 90 days. I guess they do not expect them to last longer.

Having just bought a Panasonic cordless phone TGA 2224, which has much inferior sound to GE 27998GE6, I am disillusioned with Panasonic.

Why can't they make good electronics? So that we have to keep on buying them?

Everyone seems to be recommending the TCA 60, which is much cheaper.

A feature I found on a RadioShack one HS-1958, which would be nice to see elsewhere, is a gooseneck arm for the microphone, which allows you to better adjust the distance from your face without having to move it up, which prevents you from being heard.

I tried these headsets with two new panasonic phones - 2.8 Ghz and 5.8 Ghz. With both the sound was faint to the listener at the other end. I could hear them fine but to them I sounded like I was in a tunnel. They had to strain to hear me. I returned them. I'm quite surprised that Panasonic cannot design good headsets for their own phones. I'm still searching for a replacement, maybe I'll try Plantronics or Sony.

1 out of 5 stars Callers say they can't hear me   January 21, 2006

I got this headset to go with a new Panasonic cordless phone/answering machine system. I like the system a lot, but the headset is pretty hopeless. People on the other end can barely hear me; turning up the volume apparently only works on this end. Also dislike the mute button, which apparently must be held in to work. I'm switching back to Plantronics and ordering a new headset as soon as I finish this review.

4 out of 5 stars Happy with mine   January 7, 2004

Normally, I don't write reviews, but I made an exception this time since my experience does not mirror the first two "1-star" ones.

I admit that I bought this headset rather hastily, ignoring these reviews. After a very frustrating and lengthy conversation on the phone, I bought this for my Panasonic KX-TS108W corded telephone knowing that it would be compatible.

This headset works just fine for me. Lately, only because of the reviews here, I've been asking everyone how they sound. Everyone tells me that they hear me perfectly and that I sound great. Thus, here is my 6-week review:

PROS:

- They sound just fine, and the microphone seems to work perfectly.

- They are also light and mostly comfy. I think the two-ear model would be more comfortable for me, however.

- The mute/volume capability works fine and sure comes in handy.

CONS:

- I wish it were more comfortable, like if the non-speaker side were padded. Perhaps the current design is the reason why it stays on my head so well! Usually I just adjust the headset a bit and I'm just fine.

Perhaps the first two reviewers were victims of a bad batch. This headset performs just as I hoped they would and are a good value. If the need came, I would not hesitate to buy another pair.

4 out of 5 stars. If they were perfectly comfortable, they would be 5 out of 5 stars.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect headset for me!   July 9, 2006

I matched this model number up with the phone I have, and it is a perfect fit for the phone and for me. I stay on the telephone for lengthy conference calls most of my workday, and the headset types that go in the ear ended up causing soreness. This headset sits gently over my head with the earpiece lying on my ear. I'm told I can be heard very clearly without echo or fadeout. I would highly recommend this headset!
