Lots of features but a paper jam is a pain and driver has quirks December 7, 2007 Samuel Abbe (Alexandria, VA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Printer has lots of great features like double sided printing Probably the 2nd document I printed resulted in a paper jam where way in the back it wrapped the paper around the roller. There's no way to get back there and I had to stretch my fingers to rip the paper out shred by shred. I took a half hour to clear one page out. Second, I've had two problems with the drivers. First, when I installed the complete HP software suite it locked my video camera. Every other application reported the camera was in use by another application. Uninstalling the suite and installing just the printer driver solved that problem. Second, when I plug the printer into a different USB port than its used to it wants me to insert the original CD and completely rerun the installation program. My laptop has six USB ports so its a pain to remember which one HP regards as the the "printer's" USB port. Its not a quick install either. You'd think it was installing a multi-gigabyte game, not a printer driver. Lastly, for printing photos it does and an outstanding job. The best I've ever seen and I like that it has separate ink carttridges for each color in case my kids decide to print all their homework in blue again I can replace just that cartridge.
Works fine on Leopard December 28, 2007 LifeIsBeta (Charlotte, NC) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
just to comment on all the posts dealing with OS X Leopard: I bought this last night, and installed the software from HP's site. All features work as expected, and could not have possibly been easier to set up. I definitely recommend it.
Look out for the software January 14, 2008 F. Wendt 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This printer took about seven hours on the phone with Hewlet Packard to install. Printing speed is ok, but from the time you press print untill it starts to print the time is excessive.I don't do too much printing, so I will keep it. However if I used it in a business it would be returned.
Software Nightmare February 6, 2008 Maurice B. Wright (Mohall, ND USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This Printer All in One is ok although printing is not too flexible and complicated to setup for odd size papers etc. The software is not too compatible with Microsoft and is an absolute nightmare. I have spent 2 months with HP trying to get it worked out and can't. It causes both my computers on my network to lock up or run really slow. Would recommend another brand not just an HP model.
HP Photosmart 7280 is a great value and suits my needs February 13, 2008 Patricia J. Thompson (Orlando, FL) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I was looking for an AIO printer that also did autoduplex and had a paper feed for faxing and scanning. Because this is for a small home business, I was first looking at Deskjets and Officejets but was steered to the Photosmart for the price and the features. It is not perfect but largely gets the job done. The software was a little problematic - took a long time to install and at the end of the install there was a problem so I had to reinstall manually. Seems to work o.k. though. The duplex printing is slow (the ink needs to dry before printing the other side) but I expected that and it doesn't bother me because I can keep working while it is printing. The printer makes a lot of fuss over each print job (a bit lengthy and "hummy" in the initialization and post-job mode) but it does a fine job of printing crisply and cleanly and the ink cartridges appear to last a long time. I have had two paper jam events with the duplexer - one probably because I had flimsy copy paper loaded, the other one was a false alarm (said there was a jam but I had not sent a job to be duplexed so I just reset and it was fine). The real paper jam was quite easy to dislodge. I have not printed any photos (not my thing) but I hear it is fantastic in this department. It faxes and scans multiple pages flawlessly, although I agree with another reviewer who wanted a choice for scans other than just jpeg - I need pdf, too. And yes, I would like the printer to go into a sleep mode to save energy. I just have to turn it off, which is a pain. But overall, I am happy with it as it performs the tasks I bought it for and so far so good. I could not find a better printer for the price and I was also very pleased with the footprint and low profile. Much smaller and sleeker than my previous Dell AIO and with a lot more features.
