Exactly what I need - shuts off when cats paws touch!! August 15, 2007 T. Burger (Chicago) 28 out of 32 found this review helpful
I've had this for about a month now, and I use it daily. So far, everything has worked better than expected. There haven't been any issues with any part of the device, and the shredder does indeed handle 8 sheets without trouble. I'm the kind of person that likes to leave things on. My computer stays on 24/7 because I don't want to be bothered with waiting for it to reboot. Same goes for the printer. I just don't want to stand up, lean over to the printer, and press the ON button. Undoubtedly, this is not energy conscious, and in every other aspect of my life I *am* energy conscious. Anyway... So I like to leave my shredder on too. Even if I didn't, the chances of me forgetting to turn it off are very high. The first thing I did when I tested this unit was to *VERY CAREFULLY* brush the metal lip with the paw of one of my cats, and was extremely happy to see the orange light go on - which means that the unit has disabled. I'd read one too many forwarded e-mails about cats being caught in shredders somehow to NOT have this in my house. I'm delighted to report that it works as advertised.
Great budget shredder! November 20, 2007 Arthur (Chandler, AZ USA) 23 out of 24 found this review helpful
I have had this shredder for about 6 months. I only use the shredder a few times a month, but it has worked flawlessly. It is quieter than my old shredder, which was three years old. It is relatively quick and shreds relatively easy, unless I try to shred 8-10 pages at one time, but it still works well. The sensor takes some time getting use to since I sometimes shred paper that is folded and I would touch the sensor often. Other than that, I do not have any complaints and I would highly recommend this shredder, especially given the price.
very good--even though not quite perfect April 21, 2008 Matthew G. Sherwin 21 out of 22 found this review helpful
Fellowes makes one of the better "confetti" paper shredders in this price category. It's certainly not perfect; but I have used this paper shredder for a while now and overall I have been satisfied. In this price category this is about the best you can get. But make no mistake about it--this machine by Fellowes shreds lots of things rather well--many less expensive models simply cannot shred credit cards or handle staples. This one can. Some people may say that a shredded CD makes a mess in the wastepaper can directly below the shredder; but I have not found this to be the case. I also like the way you can dispose of things using the receptacle in the front of the machine; and the reverse feature does a good job at removing paper jams. It even has a feature that stops the shredder automatically if it senses hands too close to the machine when operating--that's a wonderful feature if kids are running around in your home! Fellowes says this can shred up to 160 pages in one day, but it works at its best when you're shredding less than that, I would say. Shred roughly ten to twenty pages at a time; and then shut it off. Wait a few minutes before shredding more documents if you're doing a large job. This is a disappointment; but again for the price it's still pretty good. One other thing that disappoints me is how the shredder wastepaper basket seems to fill up rather quickly. I suppose that the shredded piece of paper leave room (and air) between them and the air simply takes up the space between the shreds of paper. I guess that would be the case with any shredder. It also seems to slow down after ten or twelve pages have been shredded. Oh, well. Overall, for routine everyday use this really is a fine shredder. You'll have to be patient with it when you have large amounts of things to shred; but again in this price category you won't get much better. Four stars.
Extremely Light Duty Shredder September 16, 2007 BigBill (San Diego, CA USA) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
I purchased this shredder a couple of weeks ago. Have been using it for a week now. Its OK, but it is much more of a light duty shredder than I realized. I had read all the reviews but hadn't figured that out. I am writing this as informational only. Its rated at 8 sheets, but almost struggles with 2 sheets, 3 pretty much makes me think I will need to disasemble it. Just putting in an envelope makes the machine sound like its struggling. I just tried to shred a credit card and I was sure it was jamming, but it did go through. It is very loud. I finally burned out my last shredder of 12 years, it had cost quite a bit more at that time (around $100) but it was quiet and could easily take 6 sheets. Since this thing is so cheap, $50 its probably worth it. Sort of wish I bought a better one now, but its to much of a hassle to send it back. In the future I will purchase shredders in local stores. Hope this info helps someone. PS. I am using this for home, not a business.
Unacceptable Product March 14, 2008 Faramarz Rabii (USA) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
I bought this based on the reviews from Amazon, it was a mistake. 1) This is not a confetti shredder. It "shreds" paper into relatively long strips that can easily by read so it is not useful for financial papers or anything that has confidential information. 2) The basket is made of very poor quality plastic that is unable to hold its shape. It is very wobbly. 3) It most definitely does not handle 8 pages! To avoid a jam I would advise no more than 3 at a time. 4) As another reviewer pointed out the trigger switch has a problem and does not work well. I am going to go to Staples or OfficeMax tomorrow to get a real confetti shredder. The number of positive reviews for this on Amazon makes me wonder how many of these are for real. It is unfortunate that the reviews seem so far off reality.
