Efficient Shredder, But Loud November 15, 2007 Jenn Austin (Austin, TX USA) 17 out of 18 found this review helpful
This is my second "personal" paper shredder this week. The first was a quiet "Ativa" Office Depot purchase that did diamond-shaped cuts, which was quiet enough that I could shred junk mail while watching television or speaking on the phone. It had a wiring problem, so I returned it. After research, I bought this shredder, which does a smaller "confetti" cut. It is significantly louder than the Ativa or the quiet sharper image machine, though it is the same general loudness as other Fellowes shredders. The small confetti cut is a significant improvement over the diamond cut or strip cut shredders. I looked through the shreddings and it would be impossible to reconnect pages. It's suitable for things that contain financial information or social security numbers, and it's more than adequate for the dozens of credit card offers we receive. The "8 page" claim is a little optimistic. It will shred 8 pages, but it takes longer than breaking the stack into 5 page groups. For shredding junk mail or paper correspondence, I do have to rip in half any envelope containing more than a couple of folded pages so I can put it through in parts. Were I to purchase another shredder, I would pick a quiet, confetti cut, with a wire basket, but this is a very efficient, well-priced shredder.
Fellowes 32057 Powershred P-57Cs Shredder November 10, 2007 Donald Meder 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
This was a replacement for (what I thought was)a cheap Office Max shredder. I bought a Fellowes based on its name. It has turned out to be a terrible shredder. It cannot handle a promotional mailing (ie. credit card offer, etc.) without jamming. Therefore I have to tear the envelope open and feed the contents a page at a time (despite its claim to handle 10 pages at a time). This is terribly time consuming. Additionally, after a number of documents have been fed, and one uses the 'Reverse' feature, it becomes solidly jammed, and won't operate in either direction. This is because the paper pieces remain within the cutters and jam against the shredder frame when reversed. It took 10 minutes to dig the paper shards out because they had jammed so tightly against the frame/feed opening. The $30 Office Max shredder had none of these problems. I'm just ramming the Run/Reverse switch back and forth every time in order to prevent jams. I know this will shorten the life expectancy, but it's the only way this shredder operates usefully. Won't be buyin' another one!
Great Shredder April 2, 2007 Steve St John 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I've used this shredder several times in the last couple of months. On the first use, I had a stack of at least 100 sheets of paper. I fed the unit 3 or 4 sheets at a time with no problems. With 5 sheets, I could hear the motor bog down a bit but it still did the job. At no time did I have to wait for the unit to cool down.
(Very) pleasantly surprised! August 23, 2007 Cookie (TX) 14 out of 15 found this review helpful
I haven't had much luck with low-cost shredders, but this one really surprised me. I've had it for about six months and have used it a LOT. So far, so good. As long as you don't cram too much paper in at one time... and you let it "rest" after 10 minutes of continuous use... this shredder will not disappoint. In fact, it exceeded my expectations. It's easy to operate, easy to empty, and it shreds credit cards as promised. I'm a satisfied customer!
My First Shredder -- Very Satisfied March 9, 2007 Fogbelt Steve (Northern CA USA) 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
I spent many weeks looking for a good deal and finally settled on the P-57Cs, my first shredder. It works really well and shreds 8 lightweight sheets fine, but if the paper is a heavier weight, it bogs down or occasionally jams. After awhile, you get the hang of how much you can feed it without jamming. The shredder mechanism sits on top of a trash can and must be removed to empty. It gets a little messy (paper shreds fall on floor) while trying to shred 10 years worth of documents but it should be fine when I get into a more normal shredding pattern. I bought the oil too, but the manual says to "only use a non-aerosol vegetable oil in a long nozzle container" so you might find a better deal at your local grocery store. The manual says to run it for 5-7 minutes at a time which will fill up the basket about 1/2 to 2/3 full. Overall, after about 5 days now, I am very pleased with this shredder and am glad I didn't order the larger size, which I had also considered.
