5 out of 5 stars Great Investment   May 9, 2007

I love this shredder besides the noise I think it's a must have for those concerned about protecting their identity. It's powerful and strong. It automatically shuts down when overheated and if fingers get too close to shredder blade. Works great for all your shredding needs. Down side is it's very loud when shredding and heats up rather quickly. I still love it and feel it meets my needs and my expectations.

The shredder works very well though the the crosscut pieces are not as small as others I have used. The power head is very heavy and does not easily reinsert on top of the basket. However, the thing that upset me is that the guide underneath where the shredded paper comes out just dropped off. Of course the little plastic protrusions that hinged it to the undercarriage are broken off and there is no way to put it back on. That could have been more studily constructed. I cannot see where that has hurt the shredding of paper, but watch the level in the basket closely, so it will not back up into the shredder.

5 out of 5 stars Affordable alternative   July 30, 2007

This is an affordable alternative to the more powerful models. Its black with a silver paper insert. Its approxmately 16 inches high, 12 inches deep and 15 inches wide. The switch is located on top of the unit.Move the switch left to turn it on or right for reverse with the middle being off. It has two rows of steel blades with each row consisting of 27 teeth.

The price point was my reason for purchase so I really wasn't expecting much and while this little guy is great at shredding a couple of sheets at a time he really struggles with more than that. He will shred the paper into confetti as advertised so theres no problem with someone stealing personal information.

Make sure to buy the lubricating oil, it comes in really nice when his blades get jammed. Apply the oil along the width of the paper insert then switch him to reverse until the jam clears.

I would've preferred a clear basket so I could easily tell when to empty the paper shreds but basically you have to peek inside by lifting the top and tilting it. The shredded confetti tends to fall in a continous pile that builds up like a mountain peak if you can imagine that on a much smaller scale, the peak eventually reaches the bottom of the shredder blades before filling the basket so I recommend shaking the paper basket a few good times to level off that peak.

I recommend this shredder for light to moderate work but not for anything to tough.

Yes, I had to much free time on my hands while writing this to actually count all the teeth in this shredder for you.

4 out of 5 stars Decent Shredder but not stellar - Good if you have kids   September 6, 2007

It won't take an entire credit card solicitation at once, you have to unfold it first. It will take the full 8 sheets, but they must be square on the blades. If they are offset and crumple a bit, the machine struggles to get through.

Blades are well protected by the design of this unit, an adult finger can't get to the blades from the top. The auto shut off is triggered when ANY of the metal surrounding the shredder blades is touched by a finger. It's annoying when you're trying to use the shredder, but a good defence against little fingers.
