Nice but not great February 9, 2008 IT Guy (Richland, WA) 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
I purchased the 4070cdw for use in a church. It seemed most people were happy with it. Unfortunately, I'm not one of them. After unpacking and setting up, I printed some built-in demo pages. I noticed some magenta spots on the page. It turned out to be a leaky magenta cartridge. A call to Brother got another toner cartridge on its way. A new cartridge fixed the problem so I took it to the church for them to try out. They weren't impressed. The colors on the demo page looked real good, but printing those same colors from a PC and Mac were dull. The photos all had a yellow tint to them. I tried everything that was advised on the Brother web site to fix the colors. No improvement. I used both drivers hoping at least one of them would produce the "bright vivid colors" that were advertised. I changed color settings trying to find the right combination. I finally gave up. The built-in demos look great, but printing something from the computer is a different story. I wonder if they are poorly written drivers. Fortunately, I purchased the printer at a local OfficeMax store with a 14-day return policy. After 12 days and a lot of time and paper, it went back to the store and they were very nice about taking it. I don't know if we had a lemon, but I really doubt it. I think people have different expectations on what a color laser printer can do.
Not an InkJet, but does well March 7, 2008 Mrs. Patricia A. Viergutz (HIGHLANDS RANCH, CO United States) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
We have a growing CPA firm and we were going through inkjet cartridges every couple of weeks. Looked at several color laser printers and picked the Brother. We have other Brother B&W laser printers and they work well. The setup and connection to our wireless network was easy. Took some tweaking to get the colors right. Very disappointed at first, colors were washed out. Almost sent it back. Tried to get techincal assistance from Brother directly, that was a waste of time. Couldn't get a response via e-mail. Tried their phone support, had the support person read to me from the knowledge basis, no help there. We did it ourselves, overall good printer, especially for the reduced price.
Great Printer! Great price for a color Laser, too! December 8, 2007 Gene Mckelvey (Tucson, AZ USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
This printer is really nice for a small office. The duplexing unit is awesome, considering I print a lot of books. Having a bit of a problem with the wireless, but probably user error. :) Anyhow, I recommend this little guy for any office environment!
THIS IS A GREAT PRINTER February 14, 2008 rxt (Monument, CO USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
No more hard wire (USB) for printing. My home is set up for wireless, and both my DELL PC (Windows XP) and APPLE Laptop can print remotely to this printer with no problems. In that regard, my Wife's new DELL PC with Vista is not supported yet (i.e. no patch available for Brother HL series) to allow wireless printing to the new Brother HL-4070cdw (reason for not giving a 5 star rating). It is noted that the installation instructions make provisions for downloading driver for Visa for wireless printing, but it doesn't work. This printer replaces a LEXMARK 510N, which had an "engine" failure just outside of warranty ($329 part replacement excluding labor). The Brother HKL-4070cdw has a slightly smaller footprint, is more quiet and color is great. Have not used the duplex feature yet, but that was not option with the LEMARK. I also have a Brother Laser Mono multiple function printer and it works great. Based on my experience so far, I would not hesitate to recommend this printer and other Brother products (good $ value, and reliable).
Outstanding so far April 22, 2008 D. Star (Milwaukee, WI) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I installed this printer wirelessly for my Dad. No set up problems at all and using 'WPA2 AES' for security over WiFi. Works well with Mac OS X. Since I have a HP 2605DN, I can compare. The Brother is constructed much better whereas the HP seems a bit fragile. The Brother warms up much quicker and, hence, seems to have much better print speed. The LED display is much more informative and can be adjusted for viewing. The set up CD is very user friendly with tutorials for the tech-averse. Highly recommended. If it proves reliable over the long term, I will raise my rating from 4 stars to 5 stars. HP better get its game on or Brother will eat their lunch in the SoHo market.
