Don't buy this phone June 18, 2007 William W. White (California) 12 out of 21 found this review helpful
For me, this phone has been a lesson in the downside of online shopping. I bought it, plus an extra handset, because it looked good, was made by a reputable company, and got excellent customer reviews. It cost more than most other phones, but I figured, "you get what you pay for". Not so, in this case. It looks good in the picture, but the construction is flimsy, the ergonomics poor, the material, which looks like stainless, is actually the cheapest possible plastic. Ours already had a scratch on it when it arrived in the mail. The buttons have a mushy feel to them, and there's an unbearable echo when you speak into the handset. The operator's manual is 50 pages long. I don't know why other reviewers liked this thing. Do they work for Siemens?

I dont know how companies overlook such obvious things. While this phone has a lot of positives, the one thing it doesnt have is the ability to turn off the ringer on a phone. Can you believe that? How universal is that? You can turn it down to a low level, but not off. Also, they are way overpriced in my opinion, but with so few competitors with color screens, they can charge what they want. There is also an echo in the phone that can be caused if you have your hand wrapped completely around the handset so that it covers the speaker on the back.
Nice but lacking some things January 1, 2008 G. Pfeiffer (Tucson, AZ USA) 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I work from home, and am on the phone with a headset between 1 and 6 hours each day. These are the shortcomings from my perspective: 1. Location of headset jack causes problems. The location of the jack is near the bottom of the phone, so that when you put the phone on the base, the headset is in the way. If the plug on the headset has any extra plastic around it, then the phone won't charge. 2. The headset jack is poorly designed. It is recessed into the phone a bit so that if your headset plug has any extra plastic around it then it won't fit into the jack correctly. 3. Feels cheap. The entire back comes off to give you access to the batteries, but the plastic feels cheap and I fear the tabs that hold the back on will break. 4. Delay when pushing buttons. There is a noticeable delay when dialing a phone number. I did not include this in my decision on whether to keep the phone, because it is a very minor issue. 5. Volume range is limited to low, medium, and high. I would have preferred to have more fine grained control over the volume. 6. Same old phone book. It is still limited to one number per name. I much prefer the cell phone style of multiple numbers per name. This does not make it worse than any other home phones I have tried, but I had hoped for more.
Siemens S455 June 3, 2007 David (Los Angeles, CA United States) 10 out of 10 found this review helpful
I bought this Siemens cordless phone and additional handset as an upgrade to an older Siemens cordless phone system. Siemens does not market its phones very well in the US, but in Europe Siemens phones are everywhere. You only have to look at the design to know that it beats every other cordless phone available in the US, most of which are hideous (i.e., Panasonic, V-Tech, Motorola, Uniden, etc.). All the features are superb: the backlit key pad, the illuminated readout, the speaker phone, reception at long distances from the base. It is easy to program phone numbers and special dates (i.e., birthdays, anniversaries, etc.) and you can choose different color backgrounds to distinguish between handsets if you have multiple handsets. It comes with a few pre-loaded images you can select for a background, if you want, but you cannot load your own photos. The phone is a convenient size and although it comes with a clip that can attach to a belt, it easily slips into a pocket if you want to carry it from room to room or outside.
Great Phones Siemens April 9, 2007 K. Petersen (Canada) 9 out of 11 found this review helpful
I just bought this phone plus E45 and are loving them. We use to have an older Siemen phone and were unhappy when the base died. We had them for 7yrs with no problems at all. So we decided to try another brand but ended up missing tomany of the features we were use to, so we bought these phones. They are really clear and have all the options i can imagine that someone would need. They also look great. I would recommend them to anyone.
