Poor quality answering machine September 30, 2002 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
I would not recommend this product. I am returning it, because the quality of the answering machine is very poor. The playback sounds like a robots voice instead of a crisp digital quality recording. I am also not impressed with the sound quality of the handset, but I would have kept it but for the terrible answering machine quality.
Don't waste your money July 24, 2004 claraclownie 10 out of 15 found this review helpful
Don't waste your money on this phone. I bought the base unit and 2 added extensions. The instructions on the registration of the auxiliary phones omitted several steps. The base phone instructions don't even explain how to use call waiting, a pretty basic function popular since the 80's. Customer service leaves you on hold for 20 minutes, and they can't help you since they have never even seen the phone. They are just reading the same, truncated instructions you are! Maybe VTech should realize that the best advertising is word of mouth. Don't bother with this system.
Caller ID? July 3, 2004 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
I liked this phone when I got it but am in the process of sending back the second one I purchased. The caller ID feature works on one line but not on the other. The company's help line was worthless, didn't even know how to turn off call screening. I tried everything they suggested, unplugging, taking out the battery, unplugging other two-line phones in the house that had caller ID, etc. Nothing worked. The company was very good about sending another phone but that one didn't work either. It's a shame because the ability to access the answering machine from the additional handsets was a big plus.Voice quality was only fair, and I sometimes got a clicking sound when talking on the phone that was annoying to me and the people I was talking to. Still, I would have kept the phone for the ability to access the answer machine, the speaker phone in the base, and the light weight of the handset if it hadn't been for the malfunctioning caller ID. Update: The company has finally admitted that the caller ID on the second line of the phones just doesn't work. They are trying to fix it and will give me a new phone when they do. In the meantime I am stuck with a phone that doesn't do what I need it to do. I have ordered an AT&T phone system but just learned that AT&T owns V-Tech so this system will probably turn out to have the same problem. It infuriates me that the company knows this is a problem but still sells the phone promising it will show caller ID, and not just on one line!
Good buy - especially if you get a better battery January 24, 2006 G. Dada (Seattle, WA USA) 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I bought this phone as a replacement for a Panasonic model which I have for many years with no problems. This phone has a lot of features for the cost, however, we have tha base in the second floor and the phone is used in the first floor - usually it is somewehe but in its base most of the day. The battery won't last a full day. Some times I would do long conference calls and it would not last for the whole call. The other day at Target I purchased a replacement battery for about $17 and now battery life is a couple days and not an issue anymore. The new battery is a 1500mAh compared to the 800mAh that came with the phone. Other than that, the sound is clear, reception is good, the phone is very light, the answering machine works well, overall a good buy.

I purchased this phone from SAM's Club - the one they sell is actually the 2489 which comes w/ an extra handset. The phones have great features, but the handsets are terrible. The sound quality comes and goes and sometimes when you try to turn the phone on it gives you a "system busy" message. The speakerphone quality is pretty good and feature-wise the phone is great. If you're looking for a good cordless phone, this is not it!
