Great little light for the money May 8, 2008 Ross Bertran 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I've used the Sima LED light for a couple of days now and, for the money, it's a great little light. The color temp is 4500 kelvin which is about in the middle between daylight and tungsten. I wish it were one or the other. It tends to match up better with daylight or even cool white fluorescents than tungsten. The only "serious" downside which others have mentioned is the fact that the battery is sealed. I would rather have a light that ran on replaceable AA's or AAA batteries. On the whole, it's a great little light for $30. It's bright, small and it's better than spending $300 - $500 for its broadcast cousins.
Can't beat this! September 3, 2008 Anthony W. Wong (Victorville,CA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
At double the price this can't be beat. Use your white balance to insure good color. I just received it and used it on my Sony HC7. Light filled entire picture with little fall off and a slight hot spot. My effective range was 15-20 feet. Great product. I plan on buying more.
Not bad for the price. March 1, 2008 Ken Smith (Seattle, WA USA) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Not a bad little product. Great for the price. Provides a fair amount of light to low light situations. I don't buy in to the 15-25 foot range specified by Sima, but it helps around 5 feet with my Canon XH-A1. Very light weight, which is a plus when adding to a Steadicam Merlin payload. Internal Li-Ion battery is nice. Mine lives up to its 45-60 minute duration, no problem. I wouldn't mind having a AA battery version, for quick change when the battery runs low. Case is cool to touch after 60 minutes running. Lens gets warm, but not nearly as much as a quartz or incandescent. After shooting, throw it in the gear bag and go. Light color is cool, leaning more toward blue than red. Sorry, I don't have the exact color temperature. Light has built in diffuser that works surprisingly well. Plastic casing feels cheap/brittle, but no problems yet.
Not bad, useful, works well but feels cheap. April 23, 2008 T. Tom (SF Bay Area, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is not bad, I think it's worth what I paid ($30.) but no more than that. It feels very cheaply made and I am not too confident that it will last a long time, especially since the internal rechargeable battery is not even replaceable. You are suppose to just discard the unit when the battery no longer accepts a charge. Also, it only comes with a 90 day warranty. It's basically like a LED flashlight with a wider angle of light throw and a hotshoe on it. It also comes with a hotshoe bracket which is nice. I use this for still photography and videos and it seems to work well. It also doubles as a pretty nice and light flashlight. UPDATE - I have since sold this light because of the green tint, which proved to be annoying and not workable for me.
Great little light - but green May 25, 2008 skyester (Los Angeles, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I was really excited when I got this light - small, bright, light weight and fits onto my camera no problem - and a great price for an on-camera LED light. the only problem is that it has a rather dramatic green tint to it, which makes skin tones go sickly. I added a magenta gel to it, which helped, but makes it a bit more of a hassle. If the makers could get the color figured out I would buy more and stack them onto each other....but until then I may look around for another LED light with a more true color.
