GREAT PICTURES, EASY TO USE December 26, 2007 C. Matas (Colorado) 8 out of 9 found this review helpful
After reading the reviews I was not sure but decided to go for it. Got this for my husband for Christmas. It is easy to upload the pictures and the IMAGE QUALITY IS VERY GOOD. I was pleasantly surprised at how great the images are and 60 photo's - WOW - my husband loves it - all the pics of his family in one little key chain. TIP: to install the software on Window's Vista, use the instructions on Page 11 rather than Page 6 - it is important that you do not have the keychain plugged into the computer when you inStall, after installing, plug it in and then select USB UPdate from the keychain itself to begin the process. Took me awhile to figure this out because the instructions on pg 6 are not as clear. I am going to get one for each set of grandparents and upload the pics for them. Very happy.
Loved it! November 3, 2007 Claudia Moton (Chicago, IL) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
This was a quirky little anniversary gift for my hubby and he LOVED it! It's NOT cheap! It's very well made and the pictures are crystal clear! Would definitely buy it again and again!
Flimsy chain, but great little device if the price is right November 25, 2007 Marshall F. Gilula (Miami, FL, USA) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Only negative comment is the flimsy chain part of the keychain, especially the loop that goes into the recessed slot in the device. But the loop, and, in fact, the chain part can likely be replaced. The device has a 1.5" CSTN LCD Color Screen and sports 16 MB of Flash Memory that will store up to 62 photos. Photo files of the JPEG, GIF, and BMP variety can be displayed. It can be synced up to PC's (98SE, 2000,XP, or VISTA) and OsX Macs. On all other counts, the device is what it is. At a time when there is generalized China-bashing, I can only applaud all other aspects of this pocket-sized slide-show device. The Coby DP-151 is superior to other similar products like the one at RS that sells for almost twice what I paid via Amaazon's vendor. Tigersoft was not at all helpful to me when I attempted to shop with them for this device. It is not a toy for the kids and will not tolerate much pounding with a hammer and forceful drops onto a tiled floor. The software that comes bundled with the device is exactly the same as what is sold with the more expensive RS device, although the RS device has a very impressive "keyholder" component. I do not know about battery life, as the onboard Lithium-polymer rechargeable gets it's juice via USB. I suspect that the battery may have a tendency to discharge when unused for days or weeks, but it quickly recharges. The screen is amazingly bright and clear, and the slide-show function is seamless. In my hands, the software appears to also be seamless and very efficient in the way it autosizes the files that are pulled into the software while the DP-151 is docked via USB. The software also has a workable CROP function. Detailed graphics look crisp and sharp, but remember that a small device such as this one may require the use of your glasses. If one ignores the flimsy double-loop that attaches the chain to the device, the DP-151 could qualify as the most worthwhile 2007 gift article for under $20 (if you are able to purchase it for that).
DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE WINDOWS XP!!!! November 28, 2007 S. J. Moseley 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I was so excited to purchase two of these for my parents, who are going to be first time grandparents soon. While the devices themselves seem to work OK in that they show the 2 sample pics, the software DOES NOT WORK WITH WINDOWS XP. I wish I had read the "fine print" of all the customer reviews, because this seems to be a common problem. While the 6Ave policy is to issue replacements only, I actually found a nice person in customer service (Ray) who agreed to give me a refund--I told him that I had tried both, and had read about this being an issue with others, so I didn't want replacements because it wasn't likely they'd work either. It's unfortunate because this seems to be a good product. I see that not everyone has had this problem, so just be aware. It's embarassing for gifts you give not to work so just a word to the wise. Perhaps soon Coby can get the software fixed so that it's compatible with Windows XP.
Great gadget for the price December 1, 2007 Nancy R. Stallings (Dallas, TX) 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I bought three of these devices for the Grandparents, so far I am happy. I have a 3 year old computer with XP. Advice to people on how to install: 1. Install the software from the disk. Do not open program at this time. 2. Plug cable into both the device and computer 3. The keychain turns on automatically. 4. Choose USB charge for a couple hours. 5. Unplug from computer and turn off by pressing middle button to call up menu and then pushing middle button again. 6. Plug cable into both the device and computer and wait for device to power up. 7. Choose USB update by pressing left button and the middle button 4. Wait for your computer to recognize the device. Several messages could appear. Be patient if you have a slower computer. 5. Open software program. As for the picture quality, it is only 1.5 inches. This is small, only slightly bigger then my cell phone. However I think the quality is better than my cell phone (a Nokia that is 16 mnths old). For the price and the reason I bought these (to give my parents pictures of the grandbaby to carry all the time), I am very happy. I plan on preinstalling a bunch of pictures. Hopefully they will follow the instructions above and be able to add more pictures as the little one grows up.
