Reliable system, clear as a bell... July 7, 2005 GizmoGal (Sherman, CT) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
The V-Tech two-line system I purchased for my mother several years ago was never satisfactory. The phone units were flimsy and poorly balanced in the base, and more importantly, (as Consumer Reports warned) there was a constant static noise in the background. After several new problems, I ripped it out and installed the Panasonic telephones. What a difference! The signal clarity was a welcome change for my mother, although all cordless systems require that you remove a hearing aid to avoid feedback. This unit was a little more straightforward to set up than in past systems, so Panasonic is improving in this area. The signal does not reach the farthest room in her house, but none of the other brands I have used does either. I would recommend the Panasonic enthusiastically, as a sturdy and reliable phone system - not perfect but getting close. BATTERY NOTE: to puzzled consumers who upgrade from 2.4 systems. The 5.8 phones DO use more battery power, so this is not your imagination, nor exclusive to any one manufacturer, simply a matter of battery physics at the present time.
Buyer BEWARE August 4, 2005 Calyx (Sunny CA) 9 out of 18 found this review helpful
Bought total of 4 handsets and one base. Excited to have purchased what I thought was the "state of the art" and a quality name brand! BOY WAS I EVER WRONG. Two of the handsets talk button didnt work, they could hear me, but I couldnt hear them. Then when I figured out that was the issue, I tried switching to speakphone on those two- and at least I could hear the other person speaking- couldnt understand them as the voice quality was so muffled. The other two handsets both buttons worked, but again the quality was just not there. Also way too much static all of the time- and I tried to change channels- but couldnt find any instructions on how to do that (my old old cordless had changable channels). My cheap $20.00 2.4 GHz V-Tech single line phone quality was far superior. I read the manual cover to cover to figure out if I was the CAUSE of the problems as I just refused to believe a company could put out such JUNK! I followed the instructions and unpluged, took out batteries etc.... nothing worked. There were very large warnings to CALL MFG FOR HELP BEFORE RETURNING THIS PRODUCT TO RETAILER (guess that should have been my first clue this was a bad product). So like a good consumer, I emailed them the problems and guess what- they gave me the same song and dance right out of the book on what to do i.e. unplug phones, take out batteries, re-register, etc..... and then the last suggestion: "if all of the above doesnt work, take it into the nearest Panasonic Center and have them take a look at it" Sorry pal..... these are going back in the box and back to the retailer as quick as I can get them there! I'm buying a Uniden! Enough is Enough
Excellent product - beat my expectations February 23, 2006 L. Kalmus (Rifton, NY) 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
I bought this set after reading all the available reviews. Due to those reviews, I had some concerns prior to it arriving but... once in use the unit has exceeded my expectations. The sound quality is very acceptable and the flexibilty and distance is much greater than the Panasonic unit it replaced. Choices of two line systems are limited and ones with answering systems even more so and I feel this was a good choice and well worth the money.
Don't Trust Panasonic June 24, 2006 T. Gatz (Shorewood IL) 9 out of 19 found this review helpful
I currently own the Panasonic MultiTalk (model number KX-TGA270S) and for the second time in three years the base unit has failed. When I hit the talk button "no link to base" is displayed. This is the exact same problem the first base unit had. It will not allow re-registration of the extensions with the base unit either. This problem is not covered under warranty and Panasonic's only advice is to buy another one. Last time this happened we were lucky enough to find an open box base unit at Circuit City, and since we already owned four $100.00 handsets we thought we would try our luck with a new base unit. As stated, within a year and a half the base unit failed. I had a very similar problem with a new Panasonic DVD player, and I'm convinced that the Panasonic brand is made to fail after the warranty is expired. I've researched these problems online and have found thousands of people with the same outlook. I've also written letters to Panasonic regarding these issues and have yet to receive any feedback. I was a big fan of Panasonic all my life, and still use the Panasonic stereo I purchased in 1980, but anything made by this brand in the last ten years is garbage. Oh, and I forgot to mention that I own three Panasonic VCR's which have been prone to problems since the very first day of operation. One of them re-sets all clocks and timers when a tape is inserted, one of them occasionally eats tapes, and one of them occasionally "forgets" to tape a show. All three of the remotes have problems as well. Stay away from this corrupt brand!
Great- straight out of the box! March 10, 2005 Richard (Camptonville, CA USA) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
It was almost "plug 'n play". The set up was simple and intuitive. The controls on the handsets and base unit are fairly straight forward. My wife, who doesn't easily take to new electronic devices, has easily adapted to this new addition. Both of us appreciate the speakerphone on the handsets and have been using it a lot to have joint conversations with friends and family who report that they are hearing us well. The voice enhancing technology makes a nice difference. The answering machine works very well. The range of the handset from the base unit is very impressive (up to 200 hundred feet in open terrain - 50 feet with big obstacles) as compared to our old Vtech 900MHz that died. All the auxillary functions of the phone system work well.(We don't have caller ID or DSL.) There was not a problem with using a $20.headset with the handsets. The less than ideal aspects of this system are - lack of regular off the shelf rechargeable AA batteries, small screens on the units which make for difficulty seeing when you're a senior citizen, lack of voice activation and the high cost.
