Not the dream phone, but good January 27, 2008 looseduke (West Hartford, CT USA) 27 out of 27 found this review helpful
My quest for the ideal house phone is on hold for a while, if I change phones again in the near future my wife is going to hit me with something. Nevertheless, I am fairly happy with this phone, which performs well with an excellent battery life ( something that kiled the Philips DECT phone I had bought previously) and good sound quality but has some shortcomings. A premise: I can only speak for the phone, we do not use the answering machine because we prefer the service provided by our VOIP service, Broadvoice, which allows for email notifications my wife likes. Pros Sound quality is very good. Screen is well sized, allows for easy reading of the caller ID which is a plus for my over 40 eyes, do not need to grab reading glasses which I hate enough already. Phone size is right, keys are precise and responsive, if a bit small. As I mentioned, the battery life is very good, and the phone indicates "charge complete" when on the cradle which is useful. With other phones we had, we were always rushing to put them back in the cradle after calls, this one you can leave hanging around for days. Cons Volume, volume, volume. Way too low; when I work from home people ask me to raise my voice more than with the Philips phones. It gets tiring when you are working from home. It has a dedicated Mute button (instead of a soft key appearing only during conversations), which was intelligently placed by their engineers immmediately below the Off button. I have dropped off inadvertenly from conference calls more than once because of this. It lacks a visual indicator on the unit to notify of VM. Other units have a light blinking on every unit, this model displays a message on the screen which means you have to remember to look at it when you come home. So, while I can definitively live with this phone long enough to wait for new models to appear, it's not going to be a life long affair.
There's a new phone in town December 5, 2007 Stanley Baker (Wrentham MA) 23 out of 23 found this review helpful
Panasonic KX-TG8232B DECT 6.0 Cordlesss phone w/ All Digital Answering System and Two handsets To say this phone is one of the best I have ever used does not do it justice. It is not just another pretty face but a highly viewable treat and functional fun cordless phone with answering machine. The following is a list of very cool visual treats as well as features: 1. The exterior is a piano,(high shine) black. Very nice to look at as well as feeling tactically superior to other surfaces I have used in the past. 2. The color screen is not only attractive but very easy on the eyes. 3. There are three total wallpapers to choose from. ( small thing but wish there were a few more) 4. The sound quality is again, hands down the best I have yet to try. 5. There is a back light a handy thing to have as well as a headphone jack. (Again little thing but bluetooth would have been great but it was impossible to find in a phone worth anything). 6. The answering machine is quiet and works flawlessly. 7. the phones set up is nearly the same as a cell phone which makes it simple to set up the phone as well as add numbers. There is a 10 number one touch dial system that after set up needs only to press and hold the desired one tpouich number until the number pops up. 8. One of the coolest features is the ability to instantly transfer up to fifty numbers to the second thru ifth phone should you have that many handsets. After that when entering anything into the 1st phone it will be tranfwered to them all. Damn I like this feature. What a time saver as well as making you smile when you use it knowing you do not have to enter all that time consumiong stuff again. Keep in mind as well that you can augment the other phones as you wish. Very cool. There are many great things to recommend. Any gripes. Don't we all. The phone is light. A good thing but it does give the impression of being flimsy. This is not the case but I would be remiss to not mention it. The only other thing so far is that I would have liked it if it stored more numbers. A way around this is to not transfer numbers and use the second phone for additional numbers. I would think numbers that suit the second persons desired numbers. The last thing and something I wish these manufacturers would stop doing is to over estimate the actual battery use time. However it is still better than any other phone I've used. About four days. Without use I wouldn't know because when not in use I charge it. NmHd batteries have no memory so there is not limitation on charging. That's it. I'd give it 4.5 stars out of five because of the contact list holding only fifty numbers. I would not hesitate to recommend this phone to anyone.
Frustrating January 6, 2008 J. Kohn (Houston, TX) 13 out of 17 found this review helpful
Overall there are some serioius annoyances about this phone, and I think I'm probably going to return it. The sound quality is fine and I haven't had any dropouts, but there are a bunch of little things that bug me. 1) The plastic molding of the handsets has some rough edges that actually scrape my ear. 2) The answering machine records blank messages from hang-ups. 3) The answering machine doesn't have any numeric indicator of message count. 4) The handsets don't have any indicator that there are new messages. 5) Menu system on handsets is clunky and poorly designed. 6) Call screening plays through the handsets, I'd rather just have call-screening though the base. 7) Tone dialing is slow when dialing address book entry or caller-id entry 8) A joystick that's also a button is bad interface design.
Weird Experience November 26, 2007 Charlotte Lin (San Jose, CA USA) 12 out of 22 found this review helpful
I bought this phone on 11/3 and thankfully I kept the bag, box and receipt because I will be returning this phone TODAY. I have never had any problems with any of the Panasonic phones or products I've bought until I bought this phone. Yes, it's a fun and sleek phone. Setting it up was easy and a snap. Figuring out it's functions was easy too. The problems I came across is that I can't hold the phone on my shoulder if I am trying to do things with both hands. The phone does not rest comfortably nor is the phone long enough for me to hold it on my shoulder if I am multi tasking around the house. The super BIG problem I had is that the phone has MAJOR glitches. I don't know if I got a dud, but this phone randomly rang and the caller ID said "incoming call", yet when I pressed TALK to answer the supposed call there was nothing but dial tone. That happened on Fri 11/23 twice. I thought it was bizzare any maybe just a prank caller or maybe an automated phone company with a glitch. So I ignored it. Last night 11/25 or maybe I should say SUPER EARLY THIS MORNING at 12:12am the phone did it again. It woke me up. I went to pick it up but it stopped ringing. So I checked the caller ID and there was no missed call logged. Weird, right? I just went back to sleep. Two minutes later the phone rings and this time I let it ring twice and picked up. Again the screen said "incoming call" and dial tone. It happened AGAIN in my hand. This went on from 12:12am to 1:16am. I tried to figure out what was wrong with this phone since now I'm WIDE awake. I used my cell phone and called my home line. I could hear the kitchen phone ringing - I never heard the other lines ringing before using my cell phone. And this time the caller ID even though I blocked it logged that I had missed a call from a private number. I deduced the problem was not a prank caller or the phone company. It was the phone malfunctioning. So I turned the ringer OFF. I guess my phone is possessed because it was NOT happy I turned the ringer off. It then turned on the Answering Service by way of speaker phone. I heard my voicemail and then the phone asking me if I wanted to save this as my outgoing message. By now I am FREAKED OUT - I figure out how to pull the batteries out and unplug the phone. I box up the phone and will be taking it's demon self back to Best Buy. I'm not sure if I will be buying another Panasonic phone. I know I won't be exchanging it for the same Panasonic model. But I just wanted to warn that this phone has MAJOR glitches. It's so weird because all the ratings I've read on the phone have been great. I think I got a dud!
Best option for DECT 6.0 December 1, 2007 Clay Whitney Babcock (Culver City, CA United States) 12 out of 14 found this review helpful
I previously purchased the Philips DECT 6.0 and had to get rid of it for numerous reasons. This is a much better solution. The Panasonic has a really well thought out interface for its various functions and does exactly what you might expect from a modern phone. It stores up to 50 numbers in its phone book and lets you know how many slots are left before you run out of space. You can easily copy the phonebook between the handsets. It sounds great. Its buttons are backlit so you don't have to turn on the lights to dial a number. The handsets are pretty, fit well on my ear and can use a headset. My only complaints are that the answering machine has no numerical indicator for the number of messages and you only get a skimpy 18 minutes of message time, so don't forget to remotely check the machine and erase messages when you go on vacation.
