Bargain Price for Above-Average Performance October 19, 2002 39 out of 47 found this review helpful
No problems here. Beats higher-priced similar models from competitors like Sony and Panasonic. The aesthetics/design quotient is a nice extra, too.
Nice color..okay recorder for taping lectures February 7, 2005 K. Boyce (New York City) 34 out of 34 found this review helpful
This is the first time I've purchased a mini recorder and it's definitely not as clear as I expected. However I believe the quality I want can only come from a "walkman size" recorder. The sound is easily heard but there's also a lot of white noise being heard as you turn up the volume on playback. The major drawback of purchasing this recorder is that in order to use the ac adapter or the headphone adapter you need to use Olympus products. Neither hole for the adapters is the standard size. I only realized this after buying and opening a pair of stereo headphones. I've searched high and low for headphones that fit and finally a salesperson, at a major office supply store said to me "the only reason why the holes would be smaller is if the manufacturer wants you to buy their products" and then he said check a major electronics store...but they told me to check the office supply store. Since I bought this with the intention of listening to my lectures during my morning train commute I am very disappointed. No wonder the package inserts included the pictures and product #'s for all of the optional accessories that go with this recorder. So if you are willing to listen sans the headphones and with a little white noise then this is a good buy and it's cheaper here than in the stores. A definite plus is the royal blue color. You can definitely pick it out which one belongs to you when your peers recorders all look the same.
Good for voice note, not that good for music practice February 17, 2007 Keita 20 out of 22 found this review helpful
So-so for me. I would have given it 5 stars if I use it only for voice note. It does what it is supposed to, and it does it well. However, it didn't work well for my daughter's violin lesson. The idea was she records herself and/or her teacher, and later she plays along with the recorded thing for practice. The problem is, the recorded notes sound always a bit higher than originally played on the instrument. I guess the tape speed is faster when playing back than when recording, for some reason. Maybe you wouldn't notice at first, but as soon as you try to play along with the tape it becomes apparent. Probably I was hoping too much for an inexpensive microcasette recorder, though. I wouldn't blame the manufacturer.
microcassette September 11, 2005 KW (Oregon) 15 out of 18 found this review helpful
I use microcassettes for interviews. The function buttons need to be easy to memorize, inconspicuous, and quiet. The s711 meets all these requirements. The blue is a nice effect, a little less intimidating than BLACK. It even came with batteries that were still viable. What more could I want? thanks. kaw
Handheld Recorder September 19, 2005 Sandra M. Reiter 15 out of 23 found this review helpful
I am enjoy using this product, but would like a little change with it. One to help with the way the tape runs on record. Also an indication when it is totally rewound.
