Great All in One - Not Perfect but does the job as Promised September 15, 2008 C. Magill (knoxville, TN United States) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this at Office Max the other day for $2*1*9. We already have a Brother B&W Laser printer but we needed a fax and copier at home. So I leaned towards adding color to compliment the monochrome laser. I would have liked to get a color laser all-in-one with WiFi instead of an inkjet but those babies are pretty expensive (try double or more this cost). Anyhow, I picked this behemoth up, plugged it in, followed the directions and had the WiFi working in about an hour. Now we can print from all of the computers at home! I'm always a bit leary about setting up WiFi but it actually worked without a hitch. It found my wireless network, I loaded the software and drivers onto my computer and wife's laptop and we're off to the races. I really like the color LCD screen on the printer, it let's you know what mode your in and exactly whats happening with the printer. Forget the 1960s technology of colored lights typical on most printers. I've tested: outgoing fax, printing photos on regular paper, color documents, and copy function. All things work good. The only reason for knocking off one star was because the color saturation could be better, but I guess I'm a bit spoiled using the color laser printer here at work. I'm going to try a few different paper types and see if that helps. I've yet to test printing photos on photo paper but suspect it will be just average. Overall for less than $250 it fits the bill for what we need it for.

The Brother MFC-6490 has proven to be all the printer I expected. Easy to set-up & use, fast, accurate, and reliable. I highly recommend this printer.
Very Pleased October 7, 2008 B. Hay (Pelham, AL United States) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Purchased this to print 11x17 from CAD application and have not been disappointed. Extremely fine lines on prints so detail is wonderful even when large sheet sizes are scaled to fit on smaller paper sizes. Needed brother support due to a networking issue. Support was great; we had to assign a permanent IP address for the printer. Now there are no problems. Gave four stars instead of 5 only because I haven't figured out why the printer doesn't autoselect the correct paper tray for different page sizes being printed. Plan to call support, but anticipate it is a setting I've missed. Haven't used the scanning.
Another gret feature San to PDF October 27, 2008 David Ditzler (Chicago, IL) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I don't own this printer yet but I've been doing research on it and I went to my local Office Depot to try it out. After downloading the manual and reading a post online I wanted to try out the Scan to PDF feature. You can place your USB flash drive (or some compatible memory card) into the front of the device and then place up to 50 documents in the ADF and have them scan into a multi-page PDF file. Super handy. You also could have it scanned and sent as an attachment in an email or sent to an FTP location. I could imaging this being a great feature to stay organized with receipts. You could just place them on the glass surface and have the machine store your email address "myreceipts@gmail.com" and then just keep sending them there for safe keeping. It won't OCR when it created a PDF meaning they text in them won't be searchable but on the Mac with quickview it works great as you can just scroll through previews of them and get to the one you want pretty quickly. As a default the scanner is set to color and PDF as output as well as putting the date as the file name. All of this can be changed though pretty easily. I think some people would buy it for this feature alone. I looked into software for other scanners to make a multi-page PDF and it cost $150 just for the software. You still need to get the scanner.
