5 out of 5 stars Exceedingly well constructed and versatile   May 30, 2005

What can I say of something that I find is so invaluable that I never put it away. The Leatherman Micra is an incredibly useful little tool for the home. It folds to less than three inches in length, is made from high quality stainless steel and costs less than $30. Unlike other pocket multi tools, this is not a gadget. Each of the attachments on the Micra actually works and the thing is incredibly sturdy. I've owned mine for three years now and it's as good as the day I bought it, with no warping or damage due to constant use. In particular, I frequently use the screw driver heads. I recently even used the blade when I was caught up a ladder and needed to strip some wires.

Its small size makes it useful to pack for travel too. I usually pack a medical kit for long travels and the scissors & tweezers on this device make it a perfect addition. And it opens bottles of beer! Though be warned that you'd have to pack it in your check in items if you don't want it confiscated when flying.

5 out of 5 stars Something you HAVE to own or GIVE as a GIFT   December 15, 2005

This is an outstanding product! I would recommend this to about anyone. I keep mine on my keychain, but you could put it in your pocket or in a purse, or in your car dash, whatever. Very small, but very useful. It has scissors, not a stupid pair of pliers like many of the full-sized multitools. The scissors are so very useful and the knife is and the screwdriver and the bottle opener and I use it maybe only once a week, but during those times, I really need it and nothing else is around. I would buy this as a gift for any guy, or girl that is the least bit handy (note: not my mom, she's not handy at all)

Really I can't endorse it enough. I write a lot of silly reviews (feel free to go and vote that they were all helpful), but this one is more serious so far...because I really really like this product. You know how some people can't joke about their religion, or the war they were in, or you having sex with their wife...this is like that, it's so cool and neat I have a hard time joking about it. I even take it to school, even though it has a little tiny knife blade that I don't know if it's o.k. to have on campus...? However, I am a teacher and there are things to cut, and this is what I use... How else do I get respect from the students...!!! I just whip this out, pull out the knife, and cut away at the lose thread on my shirt so I look professional again, and that pretty much keeps them in line, no one wants to mess with a REAL professional teacher!

2 out of 5 stars What's going on with Leatherman's these days?   October 6, 2006

I am quite dissatisfied with the quality of the new Leatherman tools. I purchased two Leatherman Squirt S4's and the Leatherman Micra from Amazon recently and was surprised to see that all of them arrived scratched up(like it was used before). Some scratches were wide and deep enough to cause cuts on your hands when you use the tool. I purchased the Leatherman Charge XTi from another vendor, which was also not of high quality that Leatherman was once known for. I have owned the original Leatherman Wave since it first came out and have had no problems with it. It seems like the newer models are being mass produced without some type of quality control. Or maybe someone is repackaging used Leatherman tools and selling them as new...
I will not be buying anymore Leatherman tools until they start making high quality multitools as they were once known for.
If you want to buy one of these, either for yourself or as a gift, I would suggest you go to a store and look at it before you buy. Make sure there are no scratches or smeared letterings or any other problems...The ones I recieved were definitely not good enough to give as gifts.

5 out of 5 stars An Amazing Find!   January 6, 2006

This was actually an amazing find - literally! I found this amazing tool about two years ago on the street. I have a modest collection of specialty items and this one was my favorite. I'll explain what I mean by 'was my favorite' in a moment. In any event, since finding this little gem, I was never without it. Initially, I carried it with along with my Spyderco C11BK Delica. As a result on heightened security awareness, I was not able to carry my Spyderco as easily hence my Micra became my sole accompaniment.

It is a well-constructed quality piece where form and function are unsurpassed. Its appearance and micro size exude precision as well as make it very attractive, unobtrusive and easy to carry. Inversely proportional to its size, it functions masterfully. I have used it at various times and have always been pleased with its ability to perform and its durability. Advertised as a personal care item, it performs equally as well for general purpose use. The knife and scissor blades hold their edge well and leverage is not a problem. The tweezers grip action is sure, and the ability to position the handle to provide more torque to the screwdriver blades is nothing short of insightful.

All-in-all, a well-designed tool which expands the owner's resources and enhances his/her capabilities.

Now as to what I meant by 'was my favorite', I recently had to abandon my Micra. While checking-in at Logan Airport, I forgot that I had it with me and TSA security would not allow me through the gate with it. Having no time to return to my vehicle, I sadly had to abandon my Micra. Despite having made no initial monetary investment in acquiring my Micra, became quite attached to it and now feel naked without it - but not for long. I have just ordered a new one to replace my abandoned gem and I can assure you that TSA will never acquire this one as they had the previous.

Get one.

5 out of 5 stars Surprising   April 16, 2007

When I first saw this item in a store I was not impressed and wondered who would buy one. A friend gave me one for my birthday. Now I carry it in my pocket all of the time. Though small, it is more than adequate for most things. With this one tool I can open my desktop computer and change any component.

I have had to tap the scissors rivet with a ball peen hammer to tighten it up again after long use. The little eyelet for the lanyard does fold into the tool so it does not wear a hole in your pocket. The ruler on the back is a little harder to use than the ruler on the back of a Leatherman PST because the markings are often interrupeted by the works of the tool. The knife blade is small, but adequate for every need I have had.

All in all, it is one of the best things a person can put into his pocket.
