5 out of 5 stars worth the wait   March 17, 2008

I ordered this item in November when I first heard about it and have been waiting on it for 4 months. The only thing I have to say is "It was worth the wait!" The design is amazing and everything works great. Once again Leatherman has created a great product that iw proudly made in the USA.
The light weight makes it easy to carry in the pocket without being too bulky. The location of the bit driver makes it convenient to use but is hidden when the tool is folded. My first reaction was that it is small( have been carrying a Leatherman Wave), but it fits great in your hand both when the tool is open and closed.

2 out of 5 stars bit driver broken on arrival   March 22, 2008

There is nothing more disappointing than waiting 4 months to receive a defective product. Now I get to wait for warranty exchange to get around to replacing my skeletool cx.
The tool (while I had it) felt light yet durable and was hardly noticeable clipped inside my pocket. It's movement was a little stiff, but that is common with a new leatherman. I am sure that over time it's movement would become more fluid. The tungsten finish looked awesome. I expected the carabiner to feel flimsy, and was surprised at how solid it actually felt.
When it came to the bit-driver, I couldn't have been more disappointed. The mechanism designed to keep the bit secure and in place was totally defective, making it impossible to keep the bit attached to the tool.
I hope it isn't a wide-spread problem. It would be a shame.

5 out of 5 stars the best leatherman ever?   April 16, 2008

I honestly think this is my favorite leatherman ever. I have owned a couple pst's, a blast and most recently a charge alx. These were all great but they always seemed a little overkill for what I needed. When I saw this one though on their site I just knew I had to have it only to find out they were backordered everywhere. So I persevered with my charge alx until the backorder ended. Man was it worth the wait. It is absolutely perfect. I fits great in my acu pockets. The caribiner clip attaches to anything from my belt loops when I ride my sportbike to my backpack and anything in between. The spring mechanism is super strong and you don't need to worry about it coming loose. As other people have stated the mechanism is a little tight but it loosen up quick. The knife blade slides out nice and smooth too. I think this is down to the bronze bushings similar to other leathermans.
The only downsides I can state but none really are any shortcomings. The first is that the lightweight makes the skeletool seem not as sturdy as other leatherman offerings but once you admire it and really look at it you realize that this is not the case. It is extremely well made and feels solid while you use it. This also leads into the next "shortcoming". It is too damn beautiful. I catch myself just admiring it. The carbon fiber accents the black coating (which is very durable. I believe it is similar to a coating used on sportbike cylinder walls if that gives you any indication of the durability.) so gorgeously. It gives a look similar to a stealth bomber. You better get used to coworkers wanting to look at it if you own one.
All in all I say to anyone sitting on the ledge that I is worth every penny. I think leatherman has finally built the perfect everyday multitool. Lightweight, sexy and just the right amount of functionality.

P.S. I noticed that another reviewer was complaining about the bit storage retainer. I think he might have gotten a defective one but I do see how it could happen with the design however mine stays in perfect and doesn't come out unless you want it to.

1 out of 5 stars Leatherman Did it Again   May 26, 2008

Leatherman did it again! Made a tool that looks like the Gerber Suspension #22-41471. But instead of selling it for $20-$25 dollars they are asking us to pay over $70!! I looked at one of these at a retail outlet and it felt out of balance and hurt my hand. Since I already own the Gerber Suspension I bought the new Gerber Flick #22-41054 from Amazon and still saved $20 for a tool that feels good and is loaded with features. Thanks Leatherman for starting the Multitool trend but THANKS Gerber for keeping it moving in the right direction. There is a reason all millitary personel carry GERBER and NOT Leatherman.

To begin with, the positives: I've owned this product for about 4 months now and really do love it (I ordered a second one the day after I thought I had lost my first). I appreciate that this Leatherman has done away with all the extraneous tools that add bulk and weight but are rarely used. I love that instead of needing a holster, I can wear it in my pocket like I would any other knife. At first I was a little leery of the driver bits being removable as I was sure they would fall out (hasn't happened once yet). Now I prefer this as it allows me a more appropriate bit for the situation. I find the blade to be impressive and the opening action fits my hand perfectly.

Now for the negatives: As good as the bits on the screwdriver are, I find the curve of the handle to make screwing anything of substance feel awkward. The pliers, while sufficient for lightweight, emergency applications, should not be expected to perform any real torquing tasks (the first time i tried this, the jaws immediately slipped off and I was left with a good blood-blister in the web of my hand).

All in all, I find it a great tool in a great package. It has the items I need most, fits them into a small form and performs passably. It fits my needs but likely isn't for everyone.
