Gil-less May 31, 2008 Darren Francis 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Returning the mower ASAP. Was optimistic from reading some of the reviews on this mower. Extremely disappointed. It is easy to push, however, was unable to handle even a single dandelion. It did cut a regular patch of grass fine. But even then it left many splotches of uncut grass across the yard. Our yard is a regularly mowed lawn also not anything that would be tuff to handle. Also if you came across a single extremely thin twig it would clog it up and would not push. If you have a picture perfect freshly sodded yard, with not even a slight change in elevation this mower would probably work fine. If not...I do not recommend.
Mowing green June 9, 2008 cadatz1 (Huntington Station, NY United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'm very happy with this manual mower. My gas mower died this spring and I decided to go green with a replacement. It's a little more work than my other mower - harder to push and keep straight, but easier to move around and lighter. I'm building up my arm muscles! And, it takes a little longer (30-35 minutes vs. 20-25 with the power). The grass catcher must be a little lopsided since all the clippings seem to go to the left (or it's just the way the blades throw them). It was easy to assemble and I DO like the grass catcher option. I would recommend to anyone thinking about going green who's got a lawn that's not too big.
HA ..... if you have golf course turf maybe.... June 14, 2008 S. Matthews (Eastern Shore of Maryland) 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
not at all useful for the average size lawn with mix of grass and dandelion and misc long stem weeds that just lay down and bounce right back up -- way too much to ask of this cutter... not the smartest buy I've ever made.
10% good 90% bad June 18, 2008 elei 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
Free Super Saver Shipping...but now I have to pay to return it. I have an average yard. I have no idea what kind of grass I have, but unless there was a tall weed or something sticking way up, it did not cut. 90% of my grass didn't even touch the blades. I wish it worked. Set up was minutes...no gas...easy to use. I didn't even use the instructions. I wish I got a chance to read the last three reviews before I purchased it. Guess I'm going back to gas powered.
Gilmour reel push mower April 25, 2008 W. Salgado (Rancho Cordova CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Our 6.5 hp gas mower finally gave out. We did not want spend a lot money for the next mower and decided to a push reel mower a try. There were many to choose from but found some as expensive as gas mowers. We found our Gilmour with a grass-catcher and sharpening kit a little over 100.00 with free shipping at Amazon. This mower does a very nice job without the noise, fumes and dust of my old mower. You don't really need to use the bag since it clips the grass instead of chopping it into bits allowing for better decomposition. It does not cut tall grass well and had to mine in stages the first time so you can't skip a week or two. A very good work out too!
