5 out of 5 stars Go green with this machine!   May 20, 2008

I use it on battery power to mow the part of the yard that is beyond 50 ft, and then when it starts weakening, I attach the cord to finish the rest of the yard. I am a new owner, so I can't tell you how long it will last, but it beats having a gas dinosaur.

4 out of 5 stars Versatile Mower With A Few Quality Issues   May 27, 2008

After researching electric mowers for a few months, I settled on the Remington MPS6107A because it was the only mower I found which will operate on both a corded and cordless option. I also like the fact that the battery is removable and can be replaced if needed.

The performance is great. The only disappointing thing about the mower is the construction.

1. Most of it is made of plastic, so you don't get this overwhelming sense that this thing will last you for 8-10 years. The plastic construction is understandable because this is a push mower, and the weight must be managed.

2. One of the front wheels appears to "wobble". This is not a problem because it doesn't affect how the mower cuts.

3. The rotating switch for the power settings doesn't always "click" into place.

4. When I was assembling the push handle, 2 of the bolts which were shipped with the mower were the wrong length. Luckily, the hardware store down the street carried the specialized curved-head bolts at the correct length which I needed.

After assembling the mower handle, it's pretty much ready to go.

I have an average sized lawn, and out-of-the-box, I was able to cut my front yard and 90% of the back yard before the battery was exhausted. On a full charge, I am able to cut the entire lawn on the 60v cordless setting.

Starting the mower is incredibly easy. However, as one other reviewer commented, you must be careful about inserting the safety key *all the way down*, then squeezing the drive handle. If not, I see how it's possible to crack the safety key.

The mower is noticeably quiet compared to a gas mower. And I truely enjoy not having to breathe in hot exhaust fumes as I mow.

On the first run, I was able to mow my overgrown St. Augustine grass (about 5 inches long) without any major problems. I had to use one of the taller height settings because the mower would get bogged down and stall if I was too aggressive in how much I wanted to trim off.

The mulching worked great, and did not leave a lot of grass blades laying on top of the lawn. Even running on the lowest power setting (60v Battery Only) I was able break up pine cones, pine needles, and large twigs. If running on the battery, do not expect the same degree of mulching as a gas mower.

Adjusting the mower height is extremely easy. The one-lever adjustment takes very little effort, and all 4 wheels are adjusted at the same time. The large wheels enable you to move through different terrain of the yard relatively easily, and each wheel moves independently of the others, allowing you to freely maneuver the machine.

Very important to remember: This is a PUSH mower. If you have large hills, slopes, or very uneven areas of the yard, it's going to take a lot of physical effort to get the job done. Also, the mower is only going to move as fast as you do, so it might take longer to mow a yard than with a self-propelled mower.

The 17" mowing area seems a little bit small. Espceially because I find that I have to overlap into the previous cut track about 4-5 inches to make sure there I'm getting grass at the edge of the cutting area.

I have not needed to use the corded option, but I'm glad to know that if I have to, it's only a matter of plugging in the proper gauge extension cord and I can continue the job and even run at the higher 120v power setting.

The collection bag seemed a little flimsy to me, but I haven't had a need to use it.

The handle doesn't just fold up and convert easily for storage. I have plenty of room in the side of my garage, so this isn't an issue, but if you need a mower which will fit in a compact space, the handle might need to be disassembled.

My main concern at this time is the longevity of the motor.

PROS:
- Corded + Cordless Option (can even run with the battery removed!)
- Replaceable Battery
- Low Noise / Low Air Pollution
- One-Lever Height Adjustment

CONS:
- Plastic Fabrication
- Not Self-Propelled
- Only 17" Cutting Area

5 out of 5 stars An Excellent Lawn Mower   May 29, 2008

This mower is everything that Remington says it is; powerful, compact, quiet, & versatile.
One "feature" I really like is that the 20 Ib. battery is housed at the front of the mower. This makes the mower easy to maneuver, especially if the lawn is uneven. (My 20+ year-old mower was like pushing a tank.)
I would recommend this mower to anyone.

Remington PowerMower 17-Inch 60-Volt Cordless/Corded Electric Combination Lawn Mower #MPS6017AAS SOON AS I STARTED TO PUSH IT THE FRONT WHEELS COLLAPSED. I CALLED REMINGTON SERVICE. THEY SAID A CARTER PIN FELL OUT. I LOOKED FOR IT AND FOUND IT. ANOTHER PART WAS MISSING BUT I COULD NOT FIND IT. THEY SAID IT WOULD BE MAILED TO ME WITH INSTRUCTIONS FOR INSTALLING IT. IT ARRIVED 3 WEEKS LATER. IN THE MEAN TIME A FRIEND OF MINE FIXED IT AND TO REMINGTONS' CREDIT THE MOWER HAS WORKED WELL AND I AM SATISFIED WITH IT. IT IS MADE IN CHINA WITH TYPICAL CHINESE QUALITY OR LACK THEROF. THE POWER FOR AN ELECTRIC IS VERY GOOD SO I GUESS COMPARED TO OTHER ELECTRIC MOWERS THIS ONE MAY BE AS GOOD OR BETTER THAN OTHERS.

I wrote a much more positive the first time but after a month of using this mower, I feel different.
My main complaint is that the mower gets clogged constantly. It's a pain. The design is great, but the fact that it clogs all the time makes it a pain to use.
I own and drive an electric car, so I would like to replace everything gas that I own with electric. I spoke to some other EV people who use the Black And Decker cordless mower Black & Decker 19-Inch 24-Volt Cordless Electric Mulching Lawn Mower #CMM1200 and they really like it. I will make this mower work, but if I could do it again, I would buy the B&D.

I opened the battery case in the Remington to see what was hiding in there. Inside the battery case there are five Power Sonic PS-1250F1 12v batteries Powersonic PS-1250F1 - 12 Volt/5 Amp Hour Sealed Lead Acid Battery with 0.187 Fast-on Connector Pretty cheap to replace if needed.

I also bought the Black and Decker cordless trimmer Black & Decker 18-Volt Cordless 12-Inch Grasshog String Trimmer/Edger #NST2018 The trimmer is working great and I have friends that use it as well and like it too.
