Great mower, but some problems June 20, 2008 L. McVicker (United States) 14 out of 14 found this review helpful
This mower is pretty good. The obvious pros are that it doesn't use gas, it doesn't emit nasty fumes, and it's easy to start. It's not good in very tall or wet grass, but it works fine for dry grass that isn't terribly long. The cons: The rubber handle grip thing tore to shreds after only a couple of uses. Also, the rubber cover you put on the back to mulch the grass got caught in the blade and got shredded. The cover shouldn't be long enough to catch in the blades, because you have to back up sometimes and you shouldn't have to shut off the mower every time you back up. All in all it's a good mower.
Impressive reviews, but I got a lemon June 11, 2008 Willa (Atlanta GA USA) 10 out of 21 found this review helpful
Earthwise 20-Inch 24 Volt Cordless Electric 3-in-1 Lawn Mower with Grass Bag #60020 I read the reviews here and would have ordered the lawn mower from Amazon, but the price jumped from $317 to $395 in the space of an afternoon! So I went to Home Depot and paid $317 for the "Homelite" branded mower. However, the lawn mower would not charge. I reread the booklet several times to be sure that I was doing everything as instructed, but the charging light never came on even though the power light did. Because the booklet indicated that the battery had been charged, although to a low level, at the factory, I thought the problem might be the charger. If so, I thought, they can send me a charger and I won't have the hassle of loading up this 100 pound mower for return, and starting a new search. I called the "call us first!" number which was an additional waste of time: the rep could hardly be bothered to tell me that I could take the lawn mower back to Home Depot or take it to a service center.
Great for small or medium lawns - beware too much mulch May 31, 2008 Paul M 9 out of 9 found this review helpful
Along with our first home came our first lawnmower. Our initial choice was the Homelite electric corded version of this model - it retailed for approximately $100 less at Home Depot - but after hassling with the cord we opted to get the cordless version. Yes, this thing is heavy but to be honest, I don't notice that on a day-to-day mowing basis. I certainly felt it whilst moving the box and picking the unit straight up. One of the big problems I had with the mower, initially, was that it really bogged down in thicker grass - particularly some on a slope in our backyard. It nearly slowed to a halt at times. However, I'm giving the mower the benefit of the doubt here, as I was using the side discharge unit and thus depositing big clumps of shredded grass here and there. I had a really, really hard time going over said clumps with the mower... it was struggling. Since then I've found that using the bag makes for less fighting with the mower, and it performs like a champ. The other downside is that once the battery's gone, it's *gone*. And it takes about 17 hours (!) to fully recharge so, truthfully, I'm not sure if I can cut my front and back yards on the same day. That's disappointing to be sure. Is it a fair trade-off though? I think so. No cords, no oil, no gas and a nicely-cut lawn. I'll take it.
backbreaking labor June 9, 2008 Steven Shrader (Sewanee, TN USA) 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
If you want to go green with your lawn mower, you will pay the price in terms of the sheer labor involved in pushing the Earthwise mower around your yard. I love the way it starts, I love the fact that it doesn't pollute, and I love not having to deal with the gas can, the tug cord, etc. But this model is far heavier and less maneuverable than a gas model, even one without self-propulsion. If your yard is medium-sized or larger and you have even gentle grades, you might find yourself dreading the chore of cutting the grass. On the other hand, it could replace a trip to the gym.
Lawn Mower did not charge. May 27, 2008 Joe (Alamosa, CO) 6 out of 19 found this review helpful
The lawn mower was charged to one green light level when it arrived and I plugged it in that day. It never got above more than one green light and the charge light on the charger never illuminated red as to indicate charging. I'm not sure if it's the charger or the battery. I had to take it to have it serviced locally and haven't gotten it back yet. I better not get charged for this.
