5 out of 5 stars K & H Birdbath Ice Eliminator   December 24, 2007

K&H Bird Bath Ice Eliminator This birdbath heater looks natural in the birdbath (unlike a coil) and can be painted if you want to. It's an energy miser at just 50 watts of power (others use 4 times more at 200 watts). At 8 cents per Kwhr. this heater costs just 10 cents a day to operate. That's a cheap price to pay for the entertainment of seeing birds year 'round at the birdbath. The built-in thermostat also saves me money by turning it off in warmer weather. In the very coldest weather it still keeps a small area ice-free. The birds seem to really appreciate it when there's no other sources of water. I've had mine for 2 winters now. I'm sure my 'bird-buddies' are glad I got it.

4 out of 5 stars Bird bath heater   December 28, 2007

Only been cold enough here 4 or 5 times this year to test the heater. But so far the heater does as advertised, keeps the water from freezing solid. At really low temperatures ice does form around the edges of bird bath, but does not freeze solid the way it would without the heater.

5 out of 5 stars Just what I needed   January 2, 2008

This ice eliminator worked not only for a standard size birdbath but I am successfully using it to keep a two-level water fountain running. It is amazing to see how many critters are attracted by clean fresh water - squirrels, birds, even a few neighborhood cats. I placed the unit in the lower bowl of my fountain near the pump. Since this allows moving water through the top spout, it stays open even in freezing temps.

It nestles nicely in the bird bath, is fairly unobtrusive and really does the job!

I use this product to keep the 'skimmer well' of my swimming pool thawed during the winter months. It is a perfect fit and solves the problem and worry of freezing and potential damage to that area of our pool.
