Every Backyard Should Have One November 21, 2006 T. Rahto (Baltimore, MD USA) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Having owned my kettle grill now for about six months, I have no idea how I managed to survive without one. My grill gets fired up at least twice a week, sometimes more. If the weather's nice, its strip steaks or salmon fillets with grilled corn on the cob. If its raining, I go for the beer can chicken and a baked potato.(trust me on this one. You haven't lived until you've tried beer can chicken.) And it doesn't have to be meat either. I've grilled up portabello mushroom caps and asparagus with no problem. Best of all though, it's fun to grill. Yes I still use my stove and my oven (occasionally), but they can't hold a candle to the grill and the back yard. Come on, what are you waiting for? Order the darn thing and get cooking!
If you scrape and twirl a little, set up is a breeze July 22, 2007 John Schultz (Illinois) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Setup was easy on this grill after I realized that I will have to scrape the tabs of the ash catcher ring down the small leg posts. At first I did not like the idea of scraping my nice new grill, which is why I temporarily stumbled on the instructions. They pop in nicely once you get past this. The 3rd leg kind of twirls on which is quite obvious once you start fiddling with it but the instructions have no words so the pictures are not as self-explaintory as I would have hoped in these 2 areas. My only complaints on this grill are the legs and the handle. The legs were wobbly and not as secure as I would have liked them and they were installed all the way to the base of the grill (as the picture showed) some nuts and bolts would have went far in this area. The handle gets to hot to handle with bare hands. especially when doing large meats like roasts or whole chickens. Wood would have fixed this problem. I wrapped mine with some small rope (not string) and it helped a little. All said and done it's a great grill. Get it. FYI-The Weber 87886 Chimney Starter is incredible and it's only 12 bucks. Get that too.
Reliable, easy to use, consistent November 19, 2007 P. A. Vinger 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have used this grill for one season with great results. The lower and upper vents are easy to adjust and do their job well. The lower vent adjustment spins pusher blades that send ash through the vents to the holder below, meaning you only have to handle the ash when the holder fills up. I definitely recommend the Gold model over the Silver, as small bits of hot coal fall through the vent during cooking. I would not want bare coals on the exposed, shallow tray in the Silver. In the Gold, they stay safely contained in the bin - and seem to continue contributing some heat, even though they're no longer in the cooking chamber. I have not yet had reason to miss an adjustable grill - it's easy enough to pile the coals such that there are hotter and less hot regions on the grill. When done cooking, it's easy to let the coals carbonize any residue on the grill, give the grill a scrub, and close the vents. The coals then go out, and can be reused. I highly recommend a Weber chimney starter and lump charcoal. One sheet of newspaper partially soaked in olive oil starts the coals nicely (it takes about 35 min to heat up a full Chimney of charcoal. I also recommend the Weber accessories for hanging tools on the side of the grill. The lid can still be closed tightly with these accessories attached, though they can come off if jostled. Don't waste your money on the lid-holder attachment - the lid has a little hook on the inside that lets it hang on the side of the grill. Negatives: The plastic handles are of good quality, but can get uncomfortably warm, and will melt if they get very hot (ie: unshielded and directly over hot coals). The rack between the wheels is sturdy enough, and usable, but minimal - there's just enough room to hold the chimney starter - and it's a bit awkward (the legs tend to get in the way). There's no place to store charcoal - if you can swing the extra cash and have the deck space, give the Platinum model a look. Overall, great value and excellent performer.

This bbq is great. Much better than my old webber, which lasted 10 years. The new one is very easy to clean and adjust the heat.
