Perfect for Power Chewers October 18, 2007 Amozarte (Chicago, IL United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
A little background is in order: Our two dogs are 18lbs and 50lbs. Both of them are absolute power chewers. They inhale bite size treats without even chewing. Nylabones don't stand a chance. Rawhides are practically swallowed whole. Plush toys are ripped apart before your eyes. One of them actually ate an entire pair of gym shorts. These dogs are chewing machines, what can I say. They do their work so fast that nothing keeps them occupied for more than 3-5 minutes! However, as much as they have decimated any toy we have thrown at them, their Kongs have survived for months without showing a single sign of the abuse they've endured. What's more, not only are these toys super-durable, they are the dogs' favourite toys- hands down! For these bone-shaped Kongs, there is a hole all the way through each end -denoted by the little jagged edges you see in the picture. The hole itself is sort of star-shaped, which is why the side view looks like a serrated, "jagged" edge. The edges are designed to hold a treat inside. Have no fear, though, the edges are tough- the dogs haven't been able to chew them up. We've had the best luck using flat, stick-like rawhides with the Kong. We break them into a bundle of pieces slightly longer than the hole, then stuff them in tightly. Inside the Kong bone, the treats last about 20-30 minutes while by themselves they lasted only seconds. Best of all, after the treats have finally been exhausted, the dogs continue to gnaw on them, as though searching for one more tasty morsel. This keeps them happy for another 10 or 15 minutes. I cannot stress enough how tough these Kongs are. If you don't like the bone shape, try the Kong Extreme Large Dog Toy, Black with a little peanut butter inside. (For even longer lasting fun, throw the Kongs in the freezer after you've stuffed in the peanut butter. It's like a Puppy Popsicle!) At around $10 these toys are a steal. I would have gladly paid $20 or $30 on account of the fact that they are so durable. If you own a power chewer, try a Kong!
High Hopes November 20, 2007 dogluvr (MA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Toys usually only last a matter of minutes with my 9 m.o. lab mix, and unfortunately this was no different. Literally one minute after I handed it to him, he had already eaten one of the ends off. :( We've had much better luck with our squirrel dude, so far it's the only treat dispensing toy that he hasn't completely destroyed.
Kong Extreme Dog bone not for chewers January 18, 2008 Michael Pennella (Pennsylvania USA) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The kong extreme are supposed to be indestructible! However, do not buy this product if you have a dog that is a chewer. We have two labs and they opened these up on Christmas and had the hard rubber shredded all over my living room in 10 minutes. They are supposed to be made to chew, but don't waste your money!
My dog's favorite toy -- and it lasts longer than anything else! February 20, 2008 MamaBear007 (Utah) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
My very agressive chewer, a 70+ pound black lab, loves this bone, whether it has treats in the holes on the ends or not. She also loves playing fetch with it. It took her three years to destroy her first Kong Extreme Bone, and she moped around for days after I had to chuck it so she wouldn't swallow the pieces that were coming off after three years. I was disappointed that I could no longer find them at the pet supply store. I was elated to learn that Amazon.com still has them. Now, Lady had her "old friend" back, and she's happy again.
Extremely Durable September 5, 2007 Karen Weatherholt (Kansas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
My Heeler is CRAZY over this bone. I stick soft dog treats in the ends, or his favorite - CHEESE. He is so crazy over having cheese in this that I have to hide it if I don't want to spoil his dinner, or he won't leave us alone until we put some "cheese" in it. It is great for keeping them busy for awhile!
