Close just isn't good enough. September 29, 2003 54 out of 56 found this review helpful
This product is a wonderful idea, but isn't quite there in execution. It seems to me that a lot of B&D products are like that--very nifty and very creative but poorly made. The laser level on my unit just isn't level. There is no way to adjust it, and even if you buy it in a store, no way to verify it before you buy, as you should with all levels. I've found that only about 1/4 of all bubble levels off the shelf are accurate. What good is an inaccurate level? I now have a $60 studfinder sitting in my garage. 1 star for creativity, and 1 star for the studfinder.
Vertical capability badly needed November 18, 2002 S. Porter (Oswego, IL United States) 52 out of 54 found this review helpful
The Bullseye Laser has many good features such as handsfree,studfinder,self-leveling and price. However it could be nearly perfect with the addition of a vertical laser line. This would provide the ability to stay vertically on the stud once located and to align several points or objects on a plumb line. One more laser eye perpendicular to the other two and pointing up through a hole in the top of the Bullseye should not affect the self-leveling machanism and would give the user right, left and vertical choices simultaneously. This addition would make this a 5-star tool. If I have missed this capability or if B&D has an upgraded series or model with the vertical option please let me know.
Don't Buy April 11, 2005 Dinesh Chakka http://livingthoughts.blogspot.com (Florida, United States) 48 out of 52 found this review helpful
My recommendation is don't buy this product,It's overpriced, I realize that tools of this kind which employ laser are all the rage these days (I mean there are so many kinds when I looked around, the choice is bewildering; ones that measure distance like a rolling tape; ones with both horizontal and vertical lasers ; ones with 360 degree lasers that you mount on a tripod and ones with laser at any angle and there are some combos like this one with a stud finder with a horizontal laser line but there isn't really a good swiss army type of laser combo with several functions) but I am not sure if they are really that much more better than good old fashioned leveller and an old fashioned stand alone stud-finder that you can buy separately for about $10 to $20 bucks. To begin with the stud-finder in this product is not very accurate or sensitive or reliable. Second the laser beam is weak, third it has a self-levelling pendulum mechanish for automatic levelling, so the beam is always at 180 degrees provided that you hold it against a vertical wall (this was a bummer too) and hold it as close to horizontal as possible within a few angles, although the self levelling feature is a great time saver and might prevent some errors one would rather see it project a light at any chosen angle, if I need 180 then I would choose to hold it at 180, this would increase the usefullness of the product. I also question the benefit of this product at this price point, imagine you want to hang a picture frame, first task might be to find a stud (depending on the weight of the picture frame and type of wall), how would you go about doing it, first thing is you need to turn this unit into stud finder mode and run the unit along the wall horizontally to mark the location of the studs, how would you do that ? ideally you would need a horizontal line on the wall to begin with which then you would trace with stud finder. So you are better off getting a simple stand-alone separate stud-finder and use this laser to project horizontal line or you can just get a straight edge with a built in bubble horizontal and vertical level. Also, I just posted, Please see my review of STRAIT-LINE 6041101CD Laser Level LL120, it addresses all of the short comings that I mentioned above and would be an excellent alternative.
Too Big And Bulky December 4, 2002 35 out of 37 found this review helpful
I didn't realize you needed to hammer a nail in the wall to keep it in place. I tried to use it to run a hand rail for the stairs and discovered it only works on a true horizontal, you can't use it any other way but horizontal, not vertical or any angle in between. The size of the unit surprised me. It was too big to put in my tool belt. If you want to hang a shelf or picture it works fine, but that's about all you can use it for.
Reasonably Priced LAser Level November 10, 2002 26 out of 30 found this review helpful
For the price this laser lavel can not be beat. Installed molding in a large room with a vaulted ceiling. After making my line on three walls I put the level on the third wall and prayed. It was dead on (sigh of relief). The self leveling mechanizm makes this tool a no brainer.
