Excellent Product January 21, 2008 Donald R. Bachman 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
The self adjusting Switch Timer is a quality product. If you use the supplemental instructions to set it up, it is really quite easy. It automatically turns on and off in your location zone (north, midstate, south) and adjusts for you so that you never really have to reset on/off times. You can override the general instructions and set it for weekday and weekends if you so wish or for your own set times. Having had an older version of this type of unit, this one far exceeds ease of use and hopefully, reliability.
Intermatic wall switch timer. May 12, 2008 David W. Knoble (Tupelo, MS) 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
This was purchased to replace a much older model, whose internal relay finally began malfunctioning. This newer model is closer to the wall (and somewhat harder to find in the dark). It includes dawn and dusk as times (which the older model did not). These two times vary by date. Don't yet know how accurate they are. They are set by entering sunrise and sunset times for the current date, and choosing an area of the USA by latitude (high, medium, low). Programming is straightforward. The internal CR2 battery is not common, but we happen to use it for our garage door remotes. Hookup is easy. The switch can be used as a single switch, or part of a three-way system. Cons: none yet, unless you need designer colors on the switch.
seems to work, but location setting is imperfect November 29, 2007 RPG (Timbuktu) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
It was easy to install, and it seems to work. It's an improvement over the previous model (SS8) in that it doesn't stick out nearly as far. But the result is that it needs a nonstandard stubby CR2 battery (the SS8 used AAA). The battery tray is nonintuitive (you need to pry it out with a screwdriver, but if you didn't know that, you'd be worried about causing damage). The front panel is also simpler than the SS8, which is good since it does the job. I don't like the fact that it uses the 2006-07 DST dates and there is no documentation on how to change that and no mention of any capability to change it. These dates are temporary, they could be changed again if Congress finds there was insignificant energy saving. Also, it uses the same wacky 'band system' as the SS8 to determine your latitude, which in turn determines sunrise and sunset. So you can't just enter the exact latitude, you have to choose one of three bands. I am at the line between the central and northern bands, so this doesn't work well for me. Also sunrise and sunset depend on your east-west location relative to the time zones, i.e. if you are at the eastern edge of a time zone, sunrise/sunset will be an hour earlier than if you are at the western edge of the same time zone. But the device has no good way of knowing that. It (like the SS8) lets you enter today's actual sunrise and sunset time as given in the newspaper, but it is optional! In the SS8 they did something wacky with this information; it never worked correctly for any other day of year except that one day. I don't know if the new model is any different. Actually, just knowing the date, actual sunrise time and actual sunset time allows one to precisely calculate sunrise and sunset for ANY other day of the year for the same location. But I doubt that this device has the computing power to do that. We shall see if it works any better than the SS8.
Intermatic Timer #ST01C January 8, 2008 B. Q. Jensen 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased this unit to replace a Brinks timer from Walmart. The Brinks units need to warn consumers not to use compact fluorescent lights with their product, especially since the box touts fluorescent lighting compatibility. This was one of the few units, that I could find, that uses a real, honest, electromechanical relay. I have been happy with this unit so far. I noticed that another reviewer said their unit did not keep time, I do not have anything more accurate than my cell phone to compare with. After a month of service, the time may be off by about a minute, assuming that the cell phone system does no vary.
Works well for my needs January 11, 2008 Pat (denver) 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
Intermatic White Self Adjusting Wall Switch Timer #ST01C I've had 3 Intermatic ST01Cs installed for a little over a month now and am pleased with their performance. Each controls an outside compact florescent light. The units look great. I would have given the units a 5 star rating but as mentioned in an earlier review they do NOT keep accurate time. Each of the units are 3 minutes fast after a month. Not a big deal for me as I used the Random (+- 15min dusk/dawn) setting. I will just reset the time after 6 months or so. Note: Each of the units display the same time but they are off from the atomic clock I used to set them with.
