Finally proof that humans are more intelligent than squirrels! May 29, 2007 Matt Dorfman 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the third bird feeder I have owned in the last year. I tried the Twirl-A-Squirrel which worked for the first five minutes and then only twirled when there WASN'T a squirrel on it. Then I tried another one with a baffle that was supposed to keep the squirrel from getting on the feeder. It took the squirrel about 3 tries to figure that one out. Finally, I bought this one and after a few tries the squirrel gave up and settled for sitting on the ground and hoping a few seeds would trickle his way. If you have a squirrel problem this is the feeder to buy. Birds also seem to love the perch ring. The only problem is that I have Blue Jays in my yard who are unable to feed from the feeder, but it does keep the grackles from scaring all the other birds off it as well.
Brome Squirrel Buster feeder really works! June 7, 2007 Pamela H Higginbotham (Atlanta, GA USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is the second Brome Feeder I've purchased. The first one I've had for over 3 years and the squirrels have not beat it yet. Since it comes with a lifetime guarantee, if squirrels do chew on the feeder parts, Brome cheerfully replaces free of charge. All parts are dishwasher safe. It's a great product. I love it and, more importantly, the birds love it, too.
Beware of raccoons June 24, 2007 BJE (MOUNT VERNON, OH USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a good feeder and works as described. However, I have a real problem with raccoons at night and have to take this feeder down at dusk. I have found it dismantled and carried halfway across the yard if I forget. It isn't "varmint proof", but I doubt anything really is. At least it defeated the deer and squirrel problem.
Best Bird Feeder Ever! July 22, 2007 Robin Fellner (Arcata, CA United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This feeder does exactly what it advertises. I have scampy little chipmunks that, because they are so little, can find their way into every bird feeder designed to keep them out except this one. I had no idea just how much bird seed they were helping themselves to until I put this one out. I also have Stellar Blue Jays and they can really get into the feeders by hook or by "beak" and the adjustability of this one doesn't stop them from trying, but frustrates them until they leave. It holds a huge amount of seed so I don't have to fill it often and it keeps seed clean and dry so I don't have to clean it so often. It is even kind of cute in design.
Stopped the Squirrels for Good! February 29, 2008 Scott Turner (Torrance, CA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is definitely my favorite tube feeder. It is well constructed, and really keeps the squirrels out. Most squirrels can't even reach the seed ports if you hang this away from anything they can launch from. The baffle on top is really small, but effective. Because this feeder is long, and squirrels can't get any footing below the baffle, they have a tough time reaching the seed ports below. I've seen many a squirrel take a tumble off this baffle to the branches below! When squirrels are lucky enough to reach the feed ports, their weight causes the seed ports to shut, preventing access to the seed. The weight required to close the seed ports is adjustable, so you can also keep large birds off your feeder. Be careful though! If you keep the weight requirement too low, the seed ports will begin to close when 4-5 small birds are on your feeder. To make sure squirrels can't scoop some seed out of the feeder without putting any weight on it, the instructions recommend a 16 inch clearance on all sides. My only complaint with this feeder is that the seed ports are extremely large. This causes a little seed to spill out of the feeder occasionally. Ground feeding birds love this, but so do squirrels. Birds tend to drop some seed anyway, so this doesn't bother me much. Scott Turner birdingdepot.com
