Dynatrap Review June 1, 2008 S. Narine 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This is an excellent and effective product at a great price. The only problem is that it catches alot of moths/butterflies. So, I placed a piece of finer screen around the entrance area to eliminate large flies. Now, it is perfect.

This product seems to work great. we heard about this from our daughter in green bay wi. She read about it in the paper. She has a woodsy backyard and loves the product. We had a mosquito magnet for the last two years and it was expensive and a hassle to run. My husband was the only one that could make it work. We have orderded from sharper image before and had excellent results.

Our first unit was placed in our garage about 6 feet away from our entrance door into the house. It has caught 100's of mosquitoes and a few moths. We have actually had to clean it outdoors in bright sun..just in case there were any live insects in the bottom trap. We brought it into the house when we spotted a flying insect and it did the trick...but you must make certain the insect stays in the unit and dehydrates for a day...just do not look into the UV lights... We just bought another to leave in the garage permanently, but it arrived looking brand new, but the cord is thinner and shorter. This one vibrates and has a few scratches on and in it! We will swap it back to the ACE dealer for another. The original unit was purchased in April and it had a 10 foot power cord and a rectangular power switch. The new one that was received today has a round power switch and as I mentioned: a thinner, shorter cord. The newest unit came with a black piece of velcro'ed fabric to wrap around the top intake of the trap when you clean it to prevent insects from escaping. I have used a piece of Staples 3" clear packing tape that actually worked better on our first Dynatrap. It is like a old fashioned sticky fly trap...just remember to tape the ends over the ends backwards which will allow for easy removal. The sticky tape captures any bugs trying to fly out or crawl up and out. Question: I am wondering if placing an Octenol strip in the catch bottom would attract more mosquitoes that have followed us into the garage...??? Using this type of trap with UV lamps is best in an enclosed area, as you do not want to attract mosquitoes from your neighbor's yard. BTW, Home Depot sells the lamps.
Fair at best July 14, 2008 Dan (Rochester, NY) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I have had this for two years now and most it catches moths, just as everyone else says. I hope that the birds and bats get hungry by not having moths to eat and therefore, they eat the "bad bugs" I want this to catch. Bad points: I am on my 3rd set of bulbs and the replacement bulbs are NOT cheap. My 3rd set is about to fail so plan on at least $40 to $50 in bults PER YEAR; I am on my second unit because the first one stopped lighting the lamps after a few weeks; the build quality is poor; it is WAY over priced - for the quality it should cost $40 or less. Good points: It is quiet; it does get rid of moths. Overall: I may buy another but only if it was much much lower priced.
Not a mosquito trap July 30, 2008 Mister H 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I bought one last year and even though it caught a number of insects, the mosquito's were definitely in the minority. This year, the fan has issues starting and the lights need replacement. I operated it without the lights for a few days and all I got was the accidental by-passer insect. All in all waste of money. So if you want to catch insects attracted to UV light, then go ahead and buy one. But if you want to solve your mosquito problem, look elsewhere.
