not recommended November 25, 2006 R. Pleva 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
I had this product hooked up to water 1 plant twice a day. It worked fine for about 10 days. Then, I came home to find the tank empty, and the 2 liters of water that was in it all over my floor. The company was really good about refunding my money. I suggest to anyone planning on using such a device to test it thoroughly. Had it been filled to capacity I probably would have had some explaining to do to my landlord. I don't think I could ever trust such a system.
It's great, plain and simple January 1, 2008 Z. Swick (Gainesville, FL USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This product is built well, and not complicated to set up nor to use. I read the instruction manual, expecting a huge hassle and assembly, but this was not the case. I had the auto-watering system in place for a week-long trip out of town, and when I came back my 10 plants were doing so well! My thought process was that I would have to bug one of my friends and pay them $50 to come water my plants anyway, so why not just give this system a try. It is more consistent than I could ever be, so I have been keeping the system running even while I'm not away. I am very happy with this system, the choice watering every 12 or 24 hours is a great feature, and the tank holds more than enough water. The nozzles that are placed in each plant have a nob so that you can adjust the amount of water that goes to each individual plant, genius! I have tropical plants that require lots of water and some that only need a little, so I was able to accommodate the plants and they are thriving. I highly recommend this system, not just for when you go out of town, but for every day watering.
Does the job but It leaks and is too noisy January 16, 2008 R. Schmidt (Loveland, Ohio USA) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
First problem: If the tank is set up too low, the motor doesn't have enough power to pump the water to the higher plants. But if it is set so the the water level is higher than the lowest spike, then the water slowly dribbles out, eventually leaving a pool of water on the floor. Second problem: The noise that the device produces is intolerable. I took it apart thinking perhaps the motor was hard mounted to the housing, but it did have small rubber mounts, which I interpret that the designer recognized the problem and made a feeble attempt to correct. I then filled the entire cavity with "Great Stuff" foam to deaden the sound, which helped somewhat, but it was still too loud. My fix was to set it up to go off at night. Problem is the timer is set to zero only at the time that you plug it in, so you have stay up till a time when you know you'll be sleeping (deeply) to plug it in. Third problem: You also have to be careful setting the flow in the spikes, because the water will have a tendency of flowing out the first few spikes at the expense of the spikes at the end of the line. Some T-connectors to set up a 'parallel' distribution instead of in series would have helped. I'd say it worked well provided the valves were set, that it went off at night, and that it was set up it so it wouldn't leak. In the end, though it was too much hassle, and we threw it in the trash.
Plants say thank you! May 19, 2008 D. S. Greenberg (Chicagoland, USA) I have a bunch of pepper plants that I've been raising from seed for a few years now. Went out of town for a couple of weeks, and this system kept them alive! It takes a bit of checking to figure out exactly what setting to use for the plants, but that wasn't a big deal. Starting about a week before I left, I waited until the plants were totally dry, then set up the system. I picked the midpoint, and waited a day or two... Then checked with my moisture meter, and adjusted up/down from there... Filled it up completely, and watched it for the week... It turns out that I had the perfect setting and that it would last about 14 days... I made sure it was filled before leaving and forgot about it until we returned home... When we got back, the plants were alive, not over watered, and I still had about 1/4 of a tank left... The only "negative" if there is one is that the device makes a substantial buzzing sound when it's pumping water... about 30 seconds or so, but if you have it set to run 2x a day, it could wake you up at night if it's around your bedroom... otherwise, no complaints...
