Doesn't last June 19, 2006 Ramy Farid 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
I've owned two of these timers. The first one started leaking after about 2 years. I decided to take my chances and bought another one because it was cheap, but this one lasted only one season. What's really annoying is that this time it didn't leak, but rather it didn't shut off, so I ended up watering my lawn for about 8 hours! Definitely stay away from this water timer.
Broke on first use July 27, 2006 LSLBoater (LSL MO) 4 out of 5 found this review helpful
I hooked it up, turned it to 1 hour, and 15 minutes later I hear this horrible screeching sound. I go outside and water is spraying all over the place from this unit. The screws had backed out and it was leaking in between the front and back cover. I tightened the screws back up, turned it back on - 30 minutes later I had the same problem.

I've tried almost all of the mechanical water timers available and have concluded that the 101 from Melnor is the best. It has lasted the longest without leaking and, most importantly, it always shuts off (surprisingly, many others, notably the Gilmour and Sears branded timers, do not).
This could save your Koi! September 16, 2002 Robert L. Hight (Tulsa, OK United States) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
After a year with my first Koi pond (4000 gal), I dozed off one day while making a water change. Instead of putting in 500 gal I added 1500 gal before I woke. Fortunately, I had used enough dechlorinator so my fish were OK....This time. I've met several people who have killed all of the fish in their ponds by forgetting to turn off the water under similar circumstances. And even if the Koi are not killed, chlorine damage to the gills appears to be permanent. When I make a water change, I want to add a precise amount of water. This nifty little flow regulator is perfect for the job. Since it is powered by the water flow, there are no batteries to remember. This is about as user friendly as a piece of equipment can be and how can one beat the price. The most inexpensive fish in my pond cost several times the price of this regulator. If everyone who has a koi pond used the Melnor 101, countless Koi would grow to adulthood. I can't imagine ever again adding water to my pond with out using one.
Water Timer May 15, 2007 M. Greenleaf (Pennsylvania) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I love these things, but go thru a ton of them. They rarely last long before they start to leak or the shutoff quits but I can't find anything better for my purpose at the price. Wish they made them like they used to. And I'm always looking for something better.
