1 out of 5 stars Reconditioned Ryobi Gas Powered Trimmer   May 25, 2008

This is easily the worst product I have ever purchased. One huge piece of junk. Shame on Ryobi for making it and shame on Amazon for selling it. Today is May 25th, and the product was ordered April 16th and giving 5 days for shipping, I am just over the 30 days. Shame on me for keeping it to see if I could make this product work. I should have known reconditioned products was somebody else's mistake. By looking at the return policy, Amazon offers that I can now sell it on Amazon, but who would want to buy this junk? Over the past two years, I have easily spent over $1,000's on products through Amazon and have been mostly satisfied until now. I called and Amazon told me that since I had this product 2 days over the 30 that I would not only have to pay for the shipping back, but they would keep 20-50% of what the item cost me for restocking($90). Rest assure I will not buy from Amazon again and I am appalled that you would suggest that I sell this junk that you won't accept back for a full refund. I would like you to remove my email address and name from your listing as a client.

3 out of 5 stars The trimmer worked well but leaked gas   April 15, 2008

The price was great, arrived quickly, looked pretty good for factory reconditioned trimmer with a few minor scratches. I had to ship it back due to leaking carburator after one use.

5 out of 5 stars Buy reconditioned!   April 20, 2008

This trimmer came looking brand new out of the box. It fired up on the first pull, and works great. Plenty of power, and easy to handle. Uses the interchangeable attachments (sold separately, I bought the blower attachment). For outdoor power equipment, I can't imagine ever buying 'new' again...Reconditioned all the way!

3 out of 5 stars Eventually worked well   June 3, 2008

This trimmer seems to work well for the one day of hard time I subjected it to so far (heavy grass and weeds which probably call for a brush-cutter instead), but it took some struggles to get it going.

First, it is not strictly "gas powered" - which implies straight gas power. It uses gas/oil mix, so you will need to buy a little 3.2 ounce jar of 2-cycle motor oil and a one gallon gas tank to mix it in.

Next, the unit came with a broken 5-cent plastic bracket that holds the throttle cable tight. Fixed that with super glue. Finally, the string was stuck together in the spool so had to disassemble the head to get it loose - not a problem but be sure to read your instructions on how to do this at it's not necessarily intuitive.

This replaced a 1.5 horsepower heavier duty trimmer ($300 range?) and seems to do just as well.
